Kings X

Thank you to the always cool theaudience for mentioning these guys in my r&r thread.

These guys are simple put one of most unknown/most unappreciated acts i won't even say of the past few decades. BUT OF ALL TIME, Man these guys are just some excellent musicians.

Doug Pinnick i look up to him a lot, as a gay man myself razz , i hate the sterotypical gay guy ala Adam Lambert & co doing stupid pop music as defying as someone who is homosexual. So i look up to people like Doug, Rob Halford, Doug Wimbish & Neil Tennant.

Doug has a great voice, and is an incredibly bass player[12 finger bass baby!]

Jerry Gaskill has been one of the best drummers on the scene for quite sometime & Ty Tabor one of the best guitarists on the scene for awhile.

Anyone else a fan?

I saw King's X live a few years ago, and I want to get their "Live in London" DVD. I have most of their older CDs (Out Of The Silent Planet, Gretchen Goes To Nebraska, Dogman, etc).

"Moanjam" is one of my favorite songs of theirs, and this is my favorite performance of that song:

I never really got into these guys. I have no idea why I bought it but I picked up Ear Candy when it was first released and later acquired Please Come Home...Mr. Bulbous and the best of disc. I'll have to give these a few spins and see what you guys are talking about.

I was just browsing amazon and noticed that Faith Hope Love and Dogman are quite cheap so I ordered them. I'll keep my eye out for some of the other early albums.

One of the most underrated bands ever,

I especially love their earlier work (until Ear Candy): low-tuned heavy riffs mixed with beatlesque harmonies and a small slice of 'prog-rock'. My favourite album of them is from that period: Gretchen goes to Nebraska.

Their last albums dont show much growth, i think, and since they did start using that hair-metal band producer (i forgot his name), they move too close to traditional hard-rock for my taste, but they remain great musicians, and live they are showing a power-trio can be as good (or even better) as any 8-piece band including horns, backup-singers etc.

Some of my favourite songs by them:

Been a fan for quite awhile. I played out "Faith, Hope, Love" back in the day.

I finally received Dogman but have yet to give it a listen. Faith Hope Love was good but I need to listen to it a few more times to form an opinion about it.

They certainly had a different sound than the vast majority of their contemporaries.

My pleasure. wink

Great band, great people.

Glad you've been able to get them a little traction with this thread.
I've done posts on them over the years that sunk like they were wearing concrete overcoats. confused

I'm a fan of all their albums.
It's refreshing that they've constantly progressed over the years and didn't stagnate.
From what I understand, they should be starting a new record soon.

If I wasn't in NYC on business this past weekend, I probably would have been hanging out with dUg at Bass Player Live! 2011 in Hollyweird.

Loved them since the 1st CD "Out Of The Silent Planet". They should have been HUGE.

My dream came true a few years ago when one of my old bands opened for them in NYC.

Their solo CD's are great too..I will always preach the gospel of King's X.
