Although I have loved many Luther tunes...no one sang this with more conviction than Tammi and Marvin. No one.

I like the original, but Luther bullied his way through his covers, this one is def included. He along with Aretha & Donny made you forget about the original renditions.

Beside, this rendition is more sexual which is right up my alley lol music

I always thought Luther had a dirty mind inside his brain. The way he did those damn covers. Like "dude, you really wanna FUCK don't you?" Not only the cover of Marvin's song but also he tried to make shit too sexual (though I do consider it more AC) with "Love Won't Let Me Wait" with his multi-octave shrill in "explode"! falloff I'm like "damn dude is HORNY!" Same with "Creepin'" and "If Only for One Night". Yeah he did it with sophistication and class but something told me Lutha was a FREAK. lol I'm sure Marvin had to give Lutha mad props on that cover like "wow, he killed that motherfucker! But I'll show him!" lol Maybe that's why he did "'Til Tomorrow" idk. lol biggrin

!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't nobody remake a song like Luffa can. He takes those songs and redoes the instrumentation, arrangements and sometimes even adds to the lyrics. He was a genius at his craft. Truly missed. R.I.P! sad

No offense but Cheryl is 10x the singer Tammi could ever be. I really love Cheryl's voice and that she has the ability to match Luffa on this song which adds to the chemistry and overall execution of the song. Tammi's weak, average voice has to be carried by Marvin and loses the essence of what a duet is supposed to be.

Stevie Wonder = EARTH
Prince = WIND
Chaka Khan = FIRE
Sade = WATER

The question for me is "do you prefer the seed or do you prefer the flower?"

On this one I prefer the flower. Couldn't have it without the seed.

I still say Lutha's version makes you wanna fuck or get horny. Maybe that's why it's picked. I loved Marvin's because you can slow drag dance to it. smile

Loofa was gay, but he had all the women screaming for him like he wasn't. I've seen Kleenex passed around, women crying, and swooning at his concerts. Yeah, I know right. smile Loofa didn't want them. lol

Good! Keep that doody to yourself, nobody else wants to claim that sorry, sad song anyway. But if Luther and Cheryl had recorded it bomb , they would have run away barefoot through fields of transcendent Love with it. You must be releived as hell that Luther is not here to steal any more of your Boy's songs. At least you got that goin' for you. wink

biggrin

^ Lutha didn't turn every cover to gold though:

"Always & Forever" - barf

"Endless Love" - hmph!

"The Closer I Get to You" - eek

I never liked his cover of "Since I Lost My Baby" either.

Yeah I know, unpopular opinions, I don't give a fuck. lol

I agree with you on always and forever. Heatwave did what nobody else could do. But I thought he did fine on Endless Love, Mooriah and all her wispering is what effed the song up! lol

You are right about that!! [But I agree with Tres Terrible Towels that Mariah was more the problem with "Endless Love."]

You know they must have met, right? Imagine THAT! It is a great sadness for us all that Marvin and Luther did not have enough room in Marvin's lifetime to work together. Woulda been tight like them suits Marvin used to wear.

I'm sure they've crossed paths before. But knowing their nature, being in the studio together would've been problematic. lol One's an Aries, another's a Taurus, it would've been as much of a blow-up as Luther's later sessions with Aretha. lol

"White Lines on my dresser and you even drank my wine." T

I think they woulda been cuttin' that shit up and then gone out to a party. Not much work gettin' done though, so I guess it would've been problematic. That party woulda been pretty dang good though.

I agree with u on those 2. Also, every cover on that Songs album was just horrible to me (except "Going In Circles." I think a lot of it had to do with Tommy Matolla and Walter Afanassium (however u spell his name). Walter didn't produce and arrange the tracks for Luther, he took the same formula he used for Mariah and used it with Lither and it didn't work at all. That had to be the worst Luther era ever. The concerts were boring as hell also. He put me to sleep when he sang "Evergreen."

Lutha lost his momentum during that period. He never really gained the audience he had between 1989 and 1993 back with that covers album here in the states. It was extremely popular in the UK for some reason.

He didn't lose momentum, he got a taste of pop success with "Power of Love" and wanted more of that action. Especially after coming off of a "failed" project like "Never Let Me Go" where he really didn't have a big hit.

"Never Let Me Go" was like POL part II. Sony tried to push "Little Miracles" and "Heaven Knows" to every format and they didn't take off. After that, Luther told Tommy that he wanted a crossover success and Tommy pretty much told him that he would take care of it. That's why he hired Walter A. to produce the project. Walter had just come off of his huge pop hits with Mariah, Regina Belle and Peabo Bryson. However, the "Songs" project just flopped here in the States. I think a lot of it had to do with the song selection and the arrangements.

Luther fans were used to him re-arranging a classic to make it a Luther classic and that didn't happen. "Songs" was filled with original arrangements and not a lot of "Luther-isms." I guess Luther decided that for the next project, he would do the album he wanted to do with "Your Secret Love." It was a much better album and had a good balance of pop ballads and traditional r&b Luther. The problem was that pop radio was done with Luther at that point.
