What's so great about Adele? To be honest, I can't stand her voice. But everyone is "oh she's really great, I love her record!". I've heard people who sang her songs much better, the only difference was they're just street performers who usually play at tube stations. So educate me, what's that great thing I don't hear? You are pure, you are snow.

I think, for many people,Adele is like a breath of fresh air. She's not drop-dead gorgeous, she doesn't go onstage half-naked,and she actually sings songs of substance. What a concept! Maybe people are simply tired of the Britneys and the Rihannas of the world.

Nothing extraordinary, but she has voice!

Her singing is ok, but 21 is a real pain to listen through.

She has a great voice and writes heartfelt relatable lyrics. If you don't like her that's ok! I can understand her over exposure getting on people's nerves. 2012: The Queen Returns

I put Adele, Duffy, Amy Winehouse (RIP-gone way too soon) and Joss Stone pretty much in the same category of music. Although Amy was way ahead of the other 3 and had her own distinct style that caught your attention real quick. [Edited 9/20/11 8:25am]

I put them is the same as well, the "I don't listen 2 pile".

I did listen to Amy sometime back in 2008 I believe, but then stopped after that. The other 3 are not bad singers at all, but their singing doesn't grab me, like Amy's did.

You hit the nail on the head SoulAlive. I feel the same way. I can't stand the Britney's, Rihanna's etc, etc that are out there today. None of them can sing and all they do is try to shock. It's silly and so boring.
Adele sings, writes and doesn't get by on a killer body and kissing other women and other such stupid things that these others do on a regular basis. She's a female artist that gets by on her music (what a concept eh).

for me, it's her total package, the emotion she sings with, the lyrics to her songs, i like her voice, her style, and that she's not a pre-packaged skin and bones teen dancing around the stage.

To me the music displayed on her two albums have been deep and the voice that accompanies it takes to another level. I can't truly explain it but yeah.

Exactly. When I see the worthless lip-syncers of the world hit the stage with their super-tired, super-cliched troupe of backup dancers behind them, and when the band onstage is huddled into the back corner as an afterthought (if there is a band at all, and not just a backing tape) I can't change the channel fast enough. Utterly worthless drivel that is made for 12 year olds who don't know better.
Real music by real musicians
Now where I have heard that before?

Shes a great singer, has descent music compared to her peers. Shes beautiful as well and manages to sell her music. Shes a breathe of fresh air indeed.

I've only heard of her on this board. I've never even heard hone of her songs. Hell, I don't even know what this chick looks like. I just assume that she's black? Is this correct?

Man even the good artists like Janelle & Adele get teared down on this bored for not having ''good voices' I Personally think she has a voice that in today's music stands out HIGH above the rest. I can tell the difference between her songs more so then most modern female singers. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Adele is definitly not a mediocre singer. She doesnt yell, she doesnt strain and seems to have technical control of her singiing.
If she isnt your cup of tea thats understandable but compared to many of her peers, she is a good singer.

That is definitely why people like her. I think she has a fantastic voice, but I don't care for her actual songs. For my personal taste, they are too bland, MOR and not that innovative. People like her as a reaction against the Britneys and the Rihannas, but in a way her music is just as formulaic as theirs is.

i see it like this, if a person is able to sell the emotion of the song i could care less how many octaves she has. how many did Barry White have? how many does Janet Jackson have? I mean i don't think Amy Winehouse even had that great of a range in terms of octaves.
not getting on you about your opinion or anything but for me, more octaves isn't always better for the situation. quality over quantity and all that jazz. [Edited 9/20/11 21:16pm]

She's white and overweight. Nothing like you expected. Propably you have heard her music from radio without recognizing that voice belongs to Adele. IMO, Rolling in the deep is not that fresh as many people think. Gnarls Barkley's Crazy was fresh and Into deep reminds it a lot.

That's the first aspect the media always mentions when discussing Adele, which is why I don't think she'd be receiving this much attention if she was slim. People are seemingly relating to her larger size (and plain/subdued appearance while performing) more than her actual music. I mean, there's more hype about Adele than there was for Amy Winehouse (who was a better singer). And in my opinion, this response to her is exactly the same as that of a flamboyant, "modelesque" performer like Rihanna, but just at the opposite extreme. It's all image and exaggeration.
