Her first album is excellent.I have it on vinyl.Alot of great uptempo tracks. She later became more 'Quiet Storm' but on that first album, she was groovin'!

speaking of Jam and Lewis...they would have been the perfect production team for Vesta to work with. It's too bad that her record label (A&M) didn't seize the opportunity.

This was the jam and i love the 12" it really grooves....The producer on her debut is the MAJOR TALENTED Bryan Loren of "Lollipop Love" fame. I love his productions on her debut joint.......Vesta's voice just glides over some funky grooves......they call her the Chaka imitator....I THINK NOT! Yes she has the vocal chops to hang with Chaka, but this woman can SANG like nobodies business!!!! I love and miss her.

The best thing about her debut album is it's mostly uptempo, filled with infectious dance grooves."Once Bitten,Twice Shy" is a superb first single and the other two singles are also excellent....
On subsequent albums, they tried to make her compete with the likes of Anita Baker,Regina Belle,Miki Howard and others,by releasing 'Quiet Storm' ballads as the singles. But the debut album demonstrates that Vesta could have easily became a dance music diva if she had gone that route.

IMO, Vesta shined more on the ballads. While I loved the dance stuff on her debut, the ballads were simply astonishing ("Don't Let Me Down", "It's You", "I'm Coming Back", "You Make Me Want To Love Again")! It was hard for Vesta to find great untempo stuff. She continued with some good uptempo tunes on "4U", but on "Special", things went horribly wrong on that particular front. And there was little improvement with "Everything & More". But, again, on both albums, the ballads were top of the line.
And when she did release uptempo tracks as singles, the results were very mixed. While "Once Bitten" and "4U" charted high, "Do Ya", "Something About You", "Don't Blow A Good Thing" and "How You Feel" didn't perform as well. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

After the first album, she never found any good uptempo songs to record. The other day,I was on Youtube watching her "Do Ya" video.I don't like that song at all.....it's got a very generic New Jack Swing sound.I really think she would have fared better with a strong production team like Jam and Lewis or LA and Babyface.....producers who were equally good at uptempo jams and slow jams.
I don't like her third album at all.

Heh, I love "Do Ya." It's probably my favorite Vesta song, even over "Once Bitten, Twice Shy." "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Something About You is my favorite song by her but i thought she put it down on ballads too like Sweet Sweet Love and You Make Me Wanna Love Again. Another uptempo favorite of mine was 4U as well as Best I Ever Had. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint
