Yeah I heard they were going right up to 1979-1981. After that, James went everywhere else and I don't think his post 1981 work was part of the Universal catalog.

It would kind of be nice to have everything but at the same time I'm ok with the series stopping here.

I'm itching to get this but I think I'll try to wait until the price comes down a bit. I noticed that the last few volumes are now available for ten-twelve dollars less than I paid for them.
I only listened to the previous volume a few times and then forgot about it but I've recently been listening to it and the music is much better than I was expecting. Obviously he had fallen off quite a bit from his peak years and he wasn't having many hits but for a long time I assumed that everything after "Get Up Offa That Thing" wasn't worth a listen, I'm glad to see that's not true and I hope to hear a few "new" gems on the last volume.
It might sound crazy but I always thought that James could have had some success in the early eighties if he had tried some Country & Western music. I'm sure that many of his fans would have been turned off by that but he was a southerner and I think he had a little C & W in him. Maybe he could have done some stuff with Ray Charles?

I think JB did do some Country stuff in the early 80s when he left Polydor. PRINCE: Always and Forever
