Indeed. The eighties, and the mid eighties especially, were not kind to the Trick.

There's a good reason that "Mighty Wings" has not made it onto any of the numerous Cheap Trick compilations and reissues.

U know I'm jk with ya ria, wink but I am one of those weird fans that likes hard rock bands of the 70s 80s material. I dig 80s kiss, cheap trick, aerosmith, zz top etc.

I kind of go back and forth with Cheap Trick in the '80s. Lap of Luxury and Busted (technically a '90s release but in practical terms it is a direct sequel to Lap of Luxury) are, as far as I am concerned, their absolute nadir but there are some good tracks scattered on their other '80s albums. Next Position Please is a good-great album but otherwise they were very hit and miss. I quite like the first side of All Shook Up but the second side is disappointing. One on One would have been much stronger without the terrible sounding production courtesy of Roy Thomas Baker. I've always thought that it sounded too noisy and compressed, one of the worst sounding albums I have ever heard. If you take the best bits from Standing on the Edge and The Doctor you would get a decent album but for my tastes those albums were when Cheap Trick got a little too poppy and lost the bite and crunch that made their '70s material great.

In general I feel that in the '80s Cheap Trick were fairly uninspired and just on cruise control. Every album has some good songs but when you compare them to the '70s albums they fall far short of what they are capable of.

It misses a few good songs but I think that Sex America Cheap Trick does a great job of collecting most of the best of their '80s material (plus it throws in some decent outtakes).

I would happily take any of their 1994-present era albums over anything from the '80s with the exception of the expanded All Shook Up and Next Position Please.

Artistic value yes there 90s stuff is miles ahead of there 80s stuff inthose terms. There 80s material is more of a guility pleasure then anything but I love some of there cheesy songs. It's kind of my feelings towards 80s kiss, the songs are cheesy as hell and the artistic value is about the size of pauls chest hair lol. But there fun songs to listen to, that's how I feel about cheaps 80s stuff. But there 70s and 90s material is top notch

Paul Stanley's best stuff from the eighties, specifically from Animalize to Hot in the Shade, isn't that far from his best stuff from the seventies. I just think that Paul had to do too much and that Gene was the weak link. He had some good stuff on Creatures of the Night and Lick It Up but he really let the band down in the eighties with his terrible songwriting. I think that is one reason why Revenge is so beloved, after years of absolute garbage Gene finally started contributing great songs again. It would have been awesome if they could have delivered a proper followup but instead they made Carnival of Souls and did the reunion.

Oh yeah, kiss to me aren't idk very deep songwriters. But at times they can really strike gold, like I mentioned I can't see there 80s stuff as more then guility pleasures especially with genes writting such dreb as let me put my log in your place and burn bitch burn haha. Revenge I love its a bit more clever and focused!, but the main reason besides the guility pleasure status is I love vinnie vincent, mark st.john, bruce kulick, eric car & singer to. They had some great musicians in there unmasked era.

The interesting thing about Vinnie is that he was a key contributor to arguably their three best post '70s albums (Creatures of the Night, Lick It Up and Revenge). Obviously there was a personality clash between him and the rest of the band but the work they did together is among their best.

Indeed. The eighties, and the mid eighties especially, were not kind to the Trick.

There's a good reason that "Mighty Wings" has not made it onto any of the numerous Cheap Trick compilations and reissues.

That and the single bombed LOL.

Harold Faltermeyer (a legend of 80's synths) and obscure AOR hero Mark Spiro wrote the tune. Theres better tracks on the OST, but I still like it. Prefer an instrumental of it though.

Didn't Harold Flatermeyer do the Beverly Hills Cop theme? "Mighty Wings" sounds more Kenny Loggins than it does Cheap Trick. I could tell they didn't write that one or "The Flame".

Yep he did. And no "The flame" had nothing to do with them songwriting wise LOL.

I think what and did on "might wings", and what was common with movie themes is that they took apart of the main score from the film, done by Faltermeyer, and Mark Spiro just wrote around one of the riffs/parts. So it does serve as one of the movies main themes as the instrumental is heard throughout the movie in places (from what I remember). Astonishingly theres no official score to the movie.
