Identity

Perhaps an impostor attended the 22nd Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony in 2007, which honored (among others) new inductees Grandmaster Flash, who got his start on Robinson's Sugar Hill Records label. Yeah, it was probably just a coincidence that the wrong woman was photographed with Slash.

This is a real scandalous cover of Marvin's "You Sure Love to Ball" (if it wasn't already scandalous enough from Marvin!):

That's the problem when someone probably has the same name as the band mate and can be easily mistaken for a legend. Sylvia Robinson was a recluse for the most part after the end of the '80s. I posted recent photos of Sylvia and the woman that is "identified" as "Sylvia the legend" don't look a like. So not an imposter at all but probably a musician with the same name. It can be easy to be misidentified especially online. nod

So, Vanity Fair, Wireimage, the Associated Press and at least 20 websites also mistook Paul Shaffer's guitarist Felicia Collins for the late Sylvia Robinson? I don't feel so bad now. lol

I had no idea she was behind the "Rappers Delight" project. You learn something new everyday.

She was also behind the discovery of Naughty by Nature, who went by the name New Style when signed to her Bon Ami record label.
