Kanye West: Love Him or Hate Him?

I had this conversation with a fellow Prince.orger last night. We were discussing how Robin Power (whatever her name is now) has a big thing for Kanye and was tweeting about him. We then went into a conversation about his music. My friend said that he couldn't stand him and hated him. I then said I wasn't a big fan, but did like a lot of his stuff.

After our 10 or so minute discussion, I thought this may be a great topic for here. What are your thoughts on Kanye? Do you love him or hate him?

Me, I like a lot of his stuff, but I think he is an arrogant sob, but is still talented.

Love the music, can't stand the man.

I can't think of a single other rapper who has consistantly put out such quality work.

I love him.

i understand how people may hate him with a passion uncontested however; in this day of pop stars' being media trained within an inch of their lives, I think he is refreshing.

Also, you need to admire the man for his ambition. 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' is light years ahead of most hip hop albums in both scope & content.

Taylor Swift better video than Beyonce? Dubya cares about black people?

He's also usually right.

I'm indifferent. Some of his music is good, but I'm not really a fan; and as with any other celebrity, I don't care the slightest bit about his personal life or what type of person he is.

Indifferent now. I never hated him (though I was almost close to for some reason) but never loved him either. Now, I'm not really against Kanye as much. Dude should just focus on his music and not interviews or speaking out. It only gets him in more trouble.

Love him. I've got all of his albums and think he presents a form of hip hop that no other artist has as well as not being afraid to take risks and not sound like everybody else. He has his own distinct sound and though he does talk about material things some times, he does speak on topics and subjects that most rappers are afraid to pursue. I can respect him for that. As far as his arrogance, well, he's a wizard at getting people talking about him, not always in a good way, but at the end of the day, he achieves his goal.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Love him! He's an original especially in hiphop. Though I don't see him as a hip hop artist but more of a rock star. He's bold and daring and not afraid to take risks, plus his music is actually good. I wish there were more artists like him today.

he truly can't compare to the great legends of the 80s and early 90s

but I admit that he was the only decent guy of the 00s hip-hop scene...and Outkast, Eminem...and that's all...

"Legends" need time. This is a current hit, which is very different

and, as I've said, being a legend of the 00s is nothing next to being a legend of the 80s, specially if you're a rapper falloff wink

hindsight is 20/20. People were saying what you are about the 80s legends when they were big.

I'm sure that Kanye will be held as one. His discography is far more impressive than just about every act out there right now.

Why does it matter? All I care about is if I enjoy his music (which I kinda do). Why does being a legend (or not being a legend) mean anything?

While he continues to put out great material, love him. When the great material begins to dry up (which it almost inevitably will) and we're just left with the self confessed 'international a**hole' we might have a problem, but I'll cross that bridge when we come to it!

He's an asshole, yes, but I love his music. He's not a good rapper imo. He has his moments tho. But as far as production and the cohesiveness of his albums, he's the fucking best. I love him as an artist.

Love him, but with an asterisk. I feel he's over-rated because I'm way too stubborn in my ideas about sampling. Though I don't mind it most times, I will always feel it's a cheat, especially when you start labelling people a genius. Kanye will NEVER be a genius as long as he relies so heavily on sampling.

Now I know it's a hip-hop tradition, but until he comes up with a whole albums worth of exceptionally original material a la "Sign Of The Times" like Prince and Co. did, he'll always be less of an artist.

Hate's kind of a strong opinion. It's like talking about Ann Coulter.

I hate him. I used to love him when he came out, back when he was good. Now the guy is a jerk and talent-wise, he is OKAY. He makes some alright beats still, but his music overall kinda bad because just the things he says when he raps, or just his motions in his videos, you can tell he thinks he just so awesome when really he is just ignorant. And he is no where NEAR as deep as he thinks he is.

One thing Kanye does do is look at himself in the mirror and raps about the good and bad things he sees in himself ..... no other rapper does that .....he got balls .... and he's got a deep understanding of hindsight...
