Answer Records

On my FB page, a friend posted "Woman to Woman" by Shirley Brown. I, in turn, posted the "answer" record by Barbara Mason, "From His Woman To You." What are your some of your favorite "answer" records?

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I heard the Eagles took a reference in a Steely Dan song the wrong way and fired back. Don't know either song.

The girlfriend at the time of Walter Becker (Steely Dan) was a big fan of The Eagles, and they were fighting one day. There wound up being a line in Steely Dan's Everything You Did that goes "turn up The Eagles, the neighbors are listening". So The Eagles replied with the "steely knives" line in Hotel California. Other than that, the songs don't have anything to do with each other.

I just thought of this one. It's not really an answer record, but they song all come together and tell a story.
