The Beatles ~ Octopus's Garden

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Oh, quit your Ringo hating - this is a great song, and I'm not exactely a Ringo fan myself... This is easily the best song he's ever done (imo, of course) Beatles or Solo..

I like Ringo's voice. I just don't like the song compared to every other song around it on this album...

It's one of the first songs kids hear from The Beatles.

He had written it when he temporarily quit the band, and kind of wrote it as an outlet.

Even though Ringo's song isn't the best cut on the album, it's not "Maxwell's Silver Hammer", either.

He had a pretty successful run on top 40 radio as a solo artist in the early 70s.

Maxwell's Silver Hammer has a far better melody and hook! And a good sadistic story about a serial killer.

It's still much better than "Yellow Submarine",

but not as good as "Don't Pass Me By".

Whenever you say that you can't, that's when you need to be trying.

Every brilliant album has to have one really shit song. That's the rule. That's why they threw Ringo a bone to sing on every album.

I seem to remember you see them work on this song during the "Let it be" sessions (the movie still not officially released unfortunately), which is mildly interesting as it obviously didn't make that album.

I dig the song. This and inparticular "Yellow submarine" were great fun songs when i was a kid. I still like both songs now actually.
