Im pretty shocked to actually see Heart on the ballot and Joan Jett too, im thinking that the HALL is finally getting hip to the fact they missed TONS of artists like Pat Benatar, Hall and Oates, Chicago, etc...tons of RB bands, and also they are now faced with the 80's and bands like Duran Duran Bon Jovi Depeche Mode Inxs and others where they at least have to acknowledge them with the idea of getting in, because as you move into the 90's and on the list grows WAY SMALLER, i mean Lenny Kravitz, Mariah possibly, the Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Norah Jones, Ryan Adams, the Jayhawks are some that creep to my mind but the list is very small so they will have to look back more at what they missed rather than who is due now. I doubt many of the '90s artists are gonna be acknowledged. They are indeed gonna have to induct folks they fail to induct long time ago. They're gonna have to eventually... least the ones who meant any difference to this thing called rock and roll.

Why the hell would Donovan get in? Wasn't he a one hit wonder? And KISS is a joke. Yes, they were influential, but look at the shit bands they influenced. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Don't cut Donovan cheap, dude was definitely integral to folk rock and psychedelic rock and no he's NOT a one-hit wonder.

Donovan had four top ten hits in the '60s including one number one hit plus a bunch of smaller hits.
As far as Kiss goes what about The Beatles. Tons of the bands they influenced were crap, is it their fault? Even if you are not a fan it is very tough to make a compelling case that Kiss do not deserve to be there.

Most of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame acts have influenced great bands and shit bands. That's why it's called influence.

Ok, thank you for schooling me on Donovan, but you can't mention KISS and the Beatles in the same breath "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Yeah HITS to me have to be thrown out the door, influence and some sort of "mark" has to be made, whether it be through touring, or industry or movement etc... i mean Ryan Adams has never had a HIT the Jayhawks have never had a hit, but to me, they go in before say Alicia Keys, Beyonce or any other POP artist, because HITS are so subjective. I mean i know people hate Bon JOvi, but to me they go in because of what they do touring wise more than anything, first surviving the 80's when most bands broke up or died off or Overdosed etc... they didnt and as say "the days of selling 8 million" in the USA are long gone, they still sell more worldwide than anyone and can sell tickets anywhere on earth, that, im sorry, cannot be taken for granted. They were huge in the early seventies but they are one of the most critically reviled bands ever. I do not think they will ever get in.

Sure I can. Gene Simmons, of the rock band Kiss, featured several songs on his debut solo album that betrayed a heavy Beatles influence.
Bam! I did it! | |

Hmm, interesting point. I was thinking that it might be a good idea to put a freeze on and stop expanding the year of eligibility until some of the deserving acts that were passed over the first time get in but that may not be necessary.
Of course there's always the possibility that a lot of recent critical darlings that did not reach a wide audience will sneak in.

The way I see it they got no choice. They know the industry has dwindled so anyone that was forgotten about on purpose would be brought up anyway because they know most of the artists that emerged after 1985, not all of them seem Hall of Fame worthy in the first place.
