Motley Crue

One of the big bad boys of rock, who else is a big fan?

Before i got into my blues/jazz/soul phase i wa sheavy into rock/metal and Motley Crue was one of the first bands i really got into. Where i had to buy every album i could[that sadly includes New Tatto confused]

My favorite album by them is Shout At The Devil[Most fans favorites] & second fav is Too Fast For Love

Here are some of there best songs.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

I remember that Vince competed on some kind of figure skating competition last year. smile

No love for New Tattoo? Shoot, I'll gladly take it over Theatre of Pain, Girls, Girls, Girls, Motley Crue, Generation Swine and Saints of Los Angeles.

I guess that makes it my fourth favourite album after Too Fast for Love (by far my favourite), Shout at the Devil and Dr. Feelgood.

I dig the Crue but they made an awful lot of mediocre albums. I can not help wondering what they could have accomplished if they had not been such terrible junkies/drunks during their prime years.

First off I think motley crue was a great album and johnis miles ahead of vince as a singer. New tat was so boring may I ask wht you like about it? Girls girls girls hass ome interesting tracks like the funky bad boy boogie and accoustic nona not to mention your all I need. Theatre of pain I figured it would get shit a lot of fans dislike it the most of there 80s albums. But fight for your rights is one of the best songs nikki ever wrote.

Motley Crue is not necessarily a bad album but I do think it is a bad Motley Crue album in the same way that Music from "The Elder" was a bad Kiss album. It was just too much of a departure. I quite like "Poison Apples" and if the rest of the album was in a similar "rock" vein I would have enjoyed it much more. It was awfully serious for a Motley Crue album.

For me New Tattoo is the album that they should have released as a followup to Dr. Feelgood. There's probably no great singles on the album but it is a very basic, sleazy hard rock album, which is exactly what I expect from Motley Crue. Like I said, there are no extreme highs (obvious singles) but there are not any real lows either. The best songs on Girls, Girls, Girls are better than anything on New Tattoo but Girls, Girls, Girls is fairly inconsistent. If New Tattoo had been released in the eighties I think people would love it but because it was released in 2000, and also probably because Tommy Lee does not play on it, it is often ignored. Maybe part of the reason I like it is because those kinds of albums are so rare today? I like some of the "alternative" nineties bands but sometimes I want to hear some fun, mindless rock music and that has been in short supply over the last twenty years.

What do you think of the two new songs that were on the 1998 greatest hits album ("Bitter Pill" and "Enslaved")? After Motley Crue and, especially, Generation Swine I thought it was great that they were back to doing simple hard rock music again and for me New Tattoo was a welcome continuation of those two songs.

Love 'em, i saw the Dr Feelgood tour with Skid Row and White lion, friggin awesome. I love New Tattoo, way better than Generation Swine which is utter shite, Saints Of Los Angeles isn't much better. They're playing this december with Def Leppard and Steel Panther, i'm seriously considering it.

They're a fun show to go see, they also seem to have fun along with the audience. You don't have to own any of their music to go see them, you'll know at least half the songs.

The title tracks for Shout Of The Devil & Dr. Feelgood are still THE hardest tracks the Crue ever done. Looks That Kill is rank high up there as well.

The Crue is one of my all-time favs! I love New Tattoo and Saints of Los Angeles. Not sure why those two aren't getting any love here! Shout at the Devil is by far their masterpiece though! Like bits and pieces from Theatre of Pain and Motley Crue. For me, Girls, Girls, Girls and Too Fast for Love are right behind Shout as their best. I know that most people don't care much for Girls (including Nikki ..lol), but I love the bluesy-feel of it, and "Wild Side" may be their best song of all-time! Even though Generation Swine was not a great Motley album, it would have had more success if another band put it out. There are a lot of great tunes on there, including "Find Myself", "Afraid" and "Flush"!

I also love Vince's first solo album, Exposed and both of the Sixx A.M. cds!! The Heroin Diaries might just be the best release Nikki has put out ever, via Crue or side-projects!

MOTLEY FUCKIN' CRUE RULES!!!!!!!

I'm with you on New Tattoo but Saints of Los Angeles, not so much. Honestly, I have not listened to it nearly as much as the others so maybe I should give it another chance but it just strikes me as being a bit too bland. I borrowed the cd from a friend and after listening to it a few times I did not feel like I needed to buy it which is weird because even after how disappointed I was with Generation Swine I still felt compelled to have it in my collection with the rest of their albums.

On the subject of Generation Swine I agree with you that it is not a bad album and once the shock wears off there's a lot to like but similar to Motley Crue I still feel like it is a bad Motley Crue album. After the poor reception that Motley Crue received I can not believe that they thought that Generation Swine was a good idea. Generation Swine probably would have been a bit better with John Corabi on vocals but I can understand why they opted to bring Vince back.

Anyone dig the first Brides of Destruction album (Here Come the Brides)? When I heard that Nikki Sixx and Tracii Guns were forming a new band I had visions of a cross between Too Fast for Love and L.A. Guns but the end result was a bit underwhelming.

For sure give SOLA another try!! You won't regret it!! As I recall, it took me a few listens as well. Totally agree with you on the Brides project...I expected A LOT more from it than what it turned out to be.

Too Fast for Love & Shout at the Devil were my companion albums to 1999 at the time.

Prince and Motley Crue ruled my world in the early 80s.

Children of the Beast was my favorite track- j/k

Actually my favorites were Looks That Kill, Too Young To Fall In Love and LiveWire

The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

For me the Crue picked up where KISS left off. I never lumped them in with sugar coated pop metal bands from that era.

The 1st 2 Crue LP's are classic. "Generation Swine" and the 1994-Corabi CD are great too.

..still waiting on Fender to put out a relic Mick Mars Strat.

Children of the beast is the jam! biggrin Seriously, though Too young to fall in love is such a great song. I think Dr. Feelgood might be their best ever song though and maybe album too. It's my fave of theirs, then it's Shout at the devil & Girls Girls Girls. If only they could do a slightly more modern version of Dr. Feelgood. That would rock!

The Brides disc was OK. They sometimes sounded like Cheap Trick, The Misfits and had some punk-metal swagger.

I know Tracii Guns was pissed when Nikki put Motley back together. He thought he was going to

get Mick's spot (on the guitar) for the reunion.
