Ok, first I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only not really going crazy for Adele's music. I think sometimes certain soul singers are pushed because they are not black (please don't get angry, keep reading here).

I put Adele, Duffy, Amy Winehouse (RIP-gone way too soon) and Joss Stone pretty much in the same category of music. Although Amy was way ahead of the other 3 and had her own distinct style that caught your attention real quick.

I put them is the same as well, the "I don't listen 2 pile".
Hold on....Stop right there.....never put Adele and Amy in the same category as Duffy and Joss Stone...
If you didn't know already Joss and Duffy are RECORD LABEL fodder "Manufactured" like Rihanna, Britney, Beyonce etc...
If you can' hear that in the music ...then you got problems... Eye Was Born & Raised On The Same Plantation In The United States Of The Red, White And Blue Eye Never Knew That Eye Was Different Til Dr. King Was On The Balcony
Lying In A Bloody Pool......Call me a Dreamer 2 - R.I.P - James Brown and Michael Jackson |

I'm not a complete fan because she has way too many "broken heart" lyrics, but I absolutely dig some of her songs.
"21" is one of those rare post-1994 albums with almost no filler...
now that Amy is gone, she should become the new "queen" of modern soul...

Ok, first I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only not really going crazy for Adele's music. I think sometimes certain soul singers are pushed because they are not black (please don't get angry, keep reading here). In other words, Adele is no Jill Scott, not even close but the good thing about Adele is that yes, she can sing, she obviously knows music and isn't as gimmicky. I think sometimes people get so "used to" terrible "singers" (think Rihanna, Katy Perry, Beyawnce) that when there's someone who comes along who isn't like that, they seem much better than perhaps what they really are.
That Rolling in the Deep song comes on during a commercial promoting a new CW show this season and this promo would air for EVERY SINGLE COMMERCIAL BREAK and so I quickly got sick of the song and never want to hear it again. Adele is a throwback but is she going to hold everyone's interest for a long time? Sadly, I think her record label is perhaps capitalizing off Amy W's death...
As far as Janelle goes, I really tried to like her but it seems like all her songs (that I've heard) sound alike and too far-reaching. I also think her attempt to brand her image by having the same look over and over again is what makes her seem redundant, she really should change it up a bit. Maybe even change genres of music to more rock or something would be more appropriate.

1st - The race argument is tired and bullshit
2nd - I'd take Adele's music over Jill's Scott's self important , lame ass nu soul wank every day of the week

To be honest, I can't stand her voice. But everyone is "oh she's really great, I love her record!". I've heard people who sang her songs much better, the only difference was they're just street performers who usually play at tube stations. So educate me, what's that great thing I don't hear?
I know taste is supposedly subjective but i think it's safe to see you don't have any
You can't deny a good voice , good songs and heart felt lyrics
even if she might be over exposed

There is no one even remotely in her league today. It's a bout the MUSIC and her OWN sound.
On another note-
I really hope she is the catalyst that puts to end the era of the vocal gymnastics that female singers have employed lately that adds NOTHING to the music nor is it original or necessary.
Adele is a great singer that knows how to sing, and knows that the music and song comes first. Personal vocal masturbation, showing off and self-pleasuring is useless and distracting if there is nothing but empty posturing behind it. I think Christina Aguilar and Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and the endless parade of over the top divas are good singers, but ultimately shallow and boring.
To me, If Adele continues on this path, she will easily join today's pop legends at the very top.
