Dirty Love clip

Since he recorded and toured with Frank Zappa in the 70s, the fact that he would cover the tune makes sense.

I think Funkadelic and Parliament had more funkier songs than the ones listed, especially that damn "Flashlight". I know, I know, it was a touchstone funk classic but most of the time whenever P-Funk are brought up, this song, "Give Up the Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)", "Mothership Connection", "One Nation Under a Groove", "Atomic Dog" (yes I consider it a P-Funk song, not just a George Clinton solo since technically it WAS P-Funk) and "(Not Just) Knee Deep" are always automatically brought up and I'm thinking "no they had MORE than that!" lol

Of course they did... but when you think of P-Funk you automatically think of One Nation, Mothership, Give up the Funk...

When I think of the genre Funk in general their main classic songs always the first to pop in my mind

I am altering the question a bit

because technically it is a 100s way tie for the 10 best funk songs of

the 70s and 80s (and maybe 60s which depends on the official birth date of "funk".).

This list is in my opinion a justified group of candidates

for a top 10 funk list, tunes that don't get the credit that they deserve.

James Brown - Problems
James Brown - Hot (a nice job, copied the melody to "Fame" by David Bowie)

Goodie - Do Something
The Bar-Kays - Up In Here

Stone City Band - Ladies Choice

Dynasty - Strokin
Bobby Nunn - Private Party

George Clinton - Pleasures of Exhaustion
George Clinton - Hey, Good Lookin
Zapp - Play Some Blues

Yeah, that does change things...

a personal list of favorite Funk tunes that are underrated, don't get credit, (or just unknown in some cases)....

Mutiny - Burning Up

Betty Davis -"Anti -Love Song"

Osiris - "Gritt On It"

Wood Brass and Steel - "Funkanova" (from the 1:48 point.....)

Mutiny - Lump

Slave - Never Get Away

Stargard -Which Way is Up

Faze -O - Riding High

Junie Morrison - 'Can't Get Over Losing You'

Funkadelic - Icka Prick (Headphones, please! Like George said, "We're Gonna Be Nasty This Year"!)

....

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
