I was on Youtube trying to sit through a few Drake songs and I just couldn't! This guy is monotone, autotuned and he repeats himself over and over again. Okay someone please tell me why this guy gets so much hype, I really WANT to see/hear what people find so amazing about this guy. Please fill me in. And no, I'm not "old"---I'm not that much older than this guy so it can't be a generational gap, can it? LOL

I'm afraid it's not a generational gap. I don't get the hype either. I'm in the age bracket that digs him but I just...don't. Still don't get why Stevie hooked up with him, why not Talib Kweli or some shit?

don't know much about him but lately I found I'm enjoying a couple of songs he's featured on mainly for his verses. I really like the tone of his voice & whatever tools he uses to make it sound like that. sounds very appealing to me.

I asked my 20 year old cousin why he liked him so much and he could not give me a clear answer. I told him that I think all of his stuff sounds the same and his flow is very monontonos. You know when someone can't give you a clear answer on why they like someone so much that they really don't know how talented or untalented he really is. Right now he's the flavor of the moment until he gets tiresome - and that has been the case with so many rappers in this generation. Rappers nowadays are more "here today and gone tomorrow" than the ones who emerged in the classic/golden eras of it.

Totally agree with both of you here. Why can't the cousin give you a real reason he likes Drake? And to say that you're old is such a cop-out! LOL! I guess he couldn't think of anything else to say. I'm not old at all and find this guy to be irritating, overrated and really lacking talent. I guess what I mean is....one reason I love Prince is because you CANNOT pull some random off the street and have them do what Prince does, he's a freaking musical genius. Yes, Drake never passed himself off as a multi-intstrumentalist BUT for all this hype this dude is getting, it's not like you can't go to the South Bronx and find some guy who can do what Drake "does" and whatever...there's nothing that seems unique about this guy. By the way, tell your cousin that "old people" are the ones who produce these "songs" so it's not like there are 13 year olds in the studio making these terrible songs (or are they? LOL)

He is a politically correct punch line rapper. He's biracial, so he's acceptable. He's part Jewish, so he's music industry approved. He "speaks well" in interviews and basically has nothing too bad to say about anyone. He's the Mr. Nice Guy of rap.

His hype was a good mixtape and that hes signed to Young Money, which is popular with tweenys. Before he signed with Young Money he wasnt a bad rapper, though it seems hes getting progressivly worse, he adopted Young Moneys style of spitting the wackest punclines that you can think of.

Agreed, it seems like I liked that song Fancy only because of T.I. but since that, it's like his songs are absolute crap, I mean any bum can put together that "music".

Yeah totally agree with you mista, it's like these so-called "songs" are so overproduced and layered with artificial sounds that it keeps you from seeing that the person actually sucks and can't sing. Some new people moved across the street in another building here in my neighborhood and almost DAILY they open their windows and play a radio station that ONLY plays this auto-tuned crap and all the song sound the same. How does anyone listen to this junk for hours on end?

I really miss things like harmony, key changes, chords, etc. Is this stuff gonna die off one day too? Good grief!

He needs to go back to Degrassi.
