Ahh yes! Funk is high on this cut. Never could understand why Sly used biblical figures for a chorus, but it worked perfectly. One of his best cuts! music headbang

Shadrach, Meshack, Abednego!

That whole 2min outro chant is about as funky as life can get! It begged to be sampled (and it sure enough did by the Beastie Boys with Shadrach), just pure joyful funk.

The album Small Talk is so underrated. Sure it didn't innovate as much as the last 3 albums, but you don't need to do that with every release. I liken it to Prince's ATWIAD in which Prince takes a step back sound wise, but still delivers an album just as good as before.

Plus, Sly's use of strings was creative, sometimes using them in place of horn parts.

I may cook up a Sly thread soon. We don't give him enough credit around here.

Harlepolis

I prefer the alternate version of this song, and it reminded me where the inspiration behind Emancipation came from.

The whole Small Talk is severely underrated IMO, includes one of my fave ballads ever....

..great tune from a killer record. If this doesn't give someone the funk-face I don't know what will.
