Today is the 20th anniversary of Mariah Carey’s Emotions album! It remains as one of the icon’s best records - both lyrically and vocally. The project introduced us to her skill as a producer and was even nominated for Producer of the Year at the 1992 Grammy Awards ceremony.
The title track became Carey’s 5th consecutive #1 single and earned her the distinction of being the most successful debut artist in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 as all 5 of her releases climbed to the summit. No other artist - male or female - has matched that feat. To date, Emotions has been certified 4x platinum and has sold over 8 million copies worldwide.
OMG I remembered this album today, but had no idea why! I didn't know of her yet though when it came out. It's one of her best records for sure. Make It Happen and Can't Let Go are some of her best ever, the latter makes me cry.
A great album. Till the End of Time is my favourite.

I thought "Emotions" was a little weak compared to her other releases. It definitely wasn't as good as her debut, but I like the title track, "Can't Let Go", "Make It Happen" and "If It's Over".

I remember that SNL performance. It was that and the one on Arsenio Hall that made me absolutely flip out and fall in love with her in the first place.
BTW, did anyone notice Randy Jackson in the background?
By far, "Emotions" is my favorite album from her. It's the only one I can listen to all the way thru without hitting the skip button and it just brings back so many wonderful memories for me. "Can't Let Go" and "The Wind" are musical masterpieces and will always be a part of me.
Whenever I listen to this song, it always brings me to tears.
