*Blood On The Dancefloor*: remixes aside.....

i put the boom box in the bathroom yesterday & while having a shower (which became extended while just grooving 2 the music) . . . . .& had this album playing...

ppl hardly recognise this LP,& due 2 the fact that it is mainly a remix album,i can understand this.
However...i wish MJ had just kept those 5 new trax & put them 2wards a new album full of new songs.

as those 5 trax: Blood...,Morphine,Superfly Sister,Ghost & Is It Scary?. .. . . ..r just 2 damn funky & musically excellent.

Superfly Sister always gets me dancing & just breaking in2 moves...Morphine is the big rock trak every Mj album has,& with that breakdown & then coming back up...just wild!(...Mike also playing a few instruments like drums & guitar on this track, very cool 2 hear...)
Ghost is cool, lyrics i can relate 2... & Is It Scary? with the big sound i just love.

personally i LOVE damn near all of HIStory ... & i feel that there r 3-4 trax on Invincible that aren't killer MJ... but the rest is very funky, most with a great beat,& the ballads beautiful.

4get the remixes on *Blood On The Dancefloor*,a couple r cool... but let's talk about the new material.
SO... lemme hav it!

would have worked better had it come out in 93 like it was suppose to have IMHO.the title track Sounded Dated in 97 but the Video&Wycleff Re-Mix was tight.Ghost was a cool New Jack Swing cut about 4 Years to late though. Is it Scary? had that older Jam&Lewis Sound a few years to late.Morphine:dug the middle section the best.SuperFly Sister:MJ's very late Attempt at Cameo Meets Fine Young Cannoballs.

i thought they were brand new.
but then again,i wasnt as deep with

the title cut actually sounded ahead of its time
2 me...not dated anyway.

those songs were suppose to drop back in 93.MJ cut "is this Scary" for the "Adams Family" Soundtrack but pulled it in 93."Ghost" is a very Early 90's New Jack Swing Sounding Cut."Morphine" Sounds like He recorded it around late 93.

mmm...slight correction, you are right most of these tracks were originally for Dangerous or HIStory, but they were def. re-recorded/arranged/produced 4 the BOTF-album. It's not uncommon 4 MJ (or 4 prince) to pick up on older vault track, rework it and release it. Anyweez, i liked the sound he was going for on Blood and i wish Sony would have let him release the bunch as an EP, without the remixes, bcause that was his intention, and it would've rocked.

It's funny, but to me, those first 5 BOTDF tracks are better than any of the uptempo tracks on Invincible. Conversely however, the slow songs on Invincible are some of his strongest. I think he's run out of ideas for decent uptempo songs, IMO. But he's done so much you know. If he just sang ballads for the rest of his career, I probably wouldn't mind at all.

Superfly was done with Instrumentalist Bryan Loren who also did "Sting's 'Set Them Free".A Tight Musician who was on MJ's ATV Staff as a Songwriter&Whatnot.Superfly just reminded me of Cameo's "Word Up".Mos Def did alot of side projects He was in a Bill Cosby Project as well.ain't no Fresh Meat in Hollywood chances are they have been in something but under a different Appearence you know.

Rioub

As soon as I heard the beat from "Remember The Time", I recognised it as being almost identical to one of the Stevie Wonder songs on the Jungle Fever soundtrack.
And while I'm at it, the verse of "Black And White" is a rip off of the verse of an old Duran Duran song, I think it was "Hungry Like The Wolf"

Ghosts is the only one of the "new" tracks that never grew on me. The others are cool. Especially Morphine. A little different and a little odd.

I had all of MJs "normal" albums, but after reading this, I bought Blood on the dancefloor yesterday. Track 1-5 are fucking fantastic!

I don't rate the mixes, except maybe History, but Morphine blew me away.

As for Ghosts, I can't get it out of my head.

Thanks guys and girls! This is my CD of the month!

that's funny, I just listened to this track about 20 minutes ago! I have to say, in my opinion, if there were no bogus rumours going around at that time this would have been a smash!
