Whitney Houston - This Day

Great performance by a great songstress! I've been on youtube a lot lately and had to share this gem with the org. Even if you don't like her material there's no denying her great voice. She'll never sound like this again, but that doesn't take a way the fact that at point in time she did sound like this. I honestly think gospel was her calling, but I guess she wanted a career were she could could go back and forth. She definitely should have done more gospel tho! Enjoy!

My favorite part: WE NEED YOUR JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY!!

She had an incredible voice, the songs were mostly rubbish but her voice was spectacular especially live.

If she hadn't f**ked her voice, she could have done like Ella did in her late 40's-early 50s and done a series of Songbooks sigh

There was a lot of opportunity for her in how to use her voice. Maybe I'm just mad that her choices ruined it. disbelief

What sucks is that the beautiful tone she had has gone. Even without those huge powerful notes her voice just had a uniquely beautiful quality.

nod

Its very tragic that she lost that beautiful voice. It couldn't have been just drugs that ruined it. I'm sure it didn't help. But Chaka did heavy drugs and ahe still has hers. Natelie Cole did everything & she still has hers even after a Kidney transplant. Amy Winehouse still had her voice before her tragic death. So it has to be another reason.

Remember Whitney toured A LOT. Even at times she wasn't supposed to. Hell, The Bodyguard Tour lasted two years. Extensive touring while smoking newports and whatever drugs she was doing at the time takes it's toll after a while. It's noticeable after 1994 that she lost a lot of her chest voice (i think that's what's called), her big notes weren't as high or powerful as they once were. Listen to the 1995 version of this song, while still great, you can tell the difference between that and the 1993 version in my original post. Whatever the case may be, I still love this woman! biggrin
