Lenny Kravitz lyrics

This has always been a bit of an issue with me, but I have been listening to some of Lenny's new album, and does anyone else find some of his lyrics some of the most cliched and unimaginative stuff you've ever heard?

What part of "Hey baby let's have sex and smoke dope" do you find cliched and unimaginative?

OK, I made that up, but that's my perception of most Lenny Kravitz songs.

I said this WAY BACK when the NBA started using "Come On And Get It" (or whatever that song is called) in their promos. I thought the lyrics were some of the worst I'd ever heard, from ANYBODY.

I haven't purchased the new Lenny album yet, and I probably won't until I run into it on vinyl, so I can't comment on it as a whole. I will say that I think the lyrics on 'Let Love Rule' and 'Mamma Said' are pretty freakin' great. The lyrics on 'Are You Gonna Go My Way' aren't quite as good, but they're still good. 'Circus', on the other hand, is the first album that made me go "WTF, Len?" Every album since then, imo, has generally been worse than the one before it, even though there's been a few great songs mixed throughout.

I've always loved what he does music and production wise (he could probably just be a producer if it creamed his creative twinkie), but he really may want to consider working with some other people on lyrics.
