No "Let's dance," no "heroes" ?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
"Helden", my number 1, is "Heroes" sung in German by Bowie. I choose it over the English version because the vocal performance seems even more impressive to me.
Let's Dance is a great tune, but I wouldn't put it among my faves.
Actually, Bowie has such a huge catalogue, it's difficult to choose only 5. [Edited 9/19/11 8:11am]

Born This Way is a great album no doub about it. I love The Edge Of Glory, but the vocals are too Madonna-ish for me to enjoy the song completely. Also how did I forget Bloody Mary! Heavy Metal Lover is up there for me too. The title track's instrumentation is too weak, but it is definetly makes my top 15

I share your problem. I enjoy his music a lot and his career is incredibly long and versatile. My definite no. 1 is Life On Mars and John, I'm Only Dancing comes clearly second. After that I can't decide where I could place Rebel Rebel, Starman, Heroes, Young Americans etc. Also his early 80's production was great.

It's really difficult. But this problem is actually a blessing, isn't it?
Seeing the songs you choose, there are some which I didn't put in my top 5 but who could be there if I made the list on a different day... Life On Mars?, Starman and Young Americans.

I gotta be honest, I've heard of the song and it's actually one of my very least favorites of his. Still, I think it's cool that you picked an uncommon song, but I never much cared for that one..

I think MJ was a genius at slow soul and R&B songs. Stranger In Moscow, I Can't Help It, Human Nature and others are amoung his best songs.

I think Michael sang better in Off The Wall than in any of his following records. Just an opinion, of course. He seemed comfortable and sweet singing the album, while in the next records he seems to express frequently a somewhat angry feeling, increasingly since Bad and especially in the 90's. On the contrary, I prefer his sweet, soulful performances in this record.
And I Can't Help It is a good example of this, in my opinion. By the way, it was the B Side of Don't Stop Til' You Get Enough. Maybe my two favourite songs by Michael in a 7"!

These are the tracks that I love from "Off the wall". But in any case, this album is not among my favorites .
I'm not a big fan of Gaga. But this album has its moments: Heavy Mental Lover, The Edge of Glory, Bloody Mary and the title track - very good songs ! [Edited 9/30/11 7:34am]
