Dude is consistantly dropping QUALITY R&B. Where are those idiots saying there is no good R&B? Nevermind. They never come inthese threads.

Negative things will always get more response than positive things. Why do you think the news mostly talks about something bad happening? Someone starting a thread saying so and so sucks or all music today is bad or "overrated" are surely to get a bunch of views and comments. But make a thread about music that is not on the radio or by non famous acts, then crickets. lol They don't really care about hearing anything, just wanna gripe and whine (and gossip about someone's personal life lol). It's no different than it's always been. People called jazz noise and jungle bunny music when it was new, rock n' roll noise, The Beatles noise, heavy metal, disco, adult contemporary, teenybop, hip hop, hair rock, and so on. People have always complained about what was popular. Why should it be any different now? The same people that always go into the gripe threads never post or recommend any music that is supposed to be "good". They just say the same thing over and over and argue amongst themselves. They want a radio station to spoonfeed them music. Since that is the case, then there is no reason to complain about what they're playing. Turn it off and find something else.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The song is good, but his falsetto sounds like it's difficult for him. The higher notes seem more natural for him when he's just going "whooo" at the middle/near the end. But when he's singing words, it seems like he's straining. Maybe should have gone for a natural male voice.

Heard this yesterday and LOVE it! Listened to it over and over. I'm so glad good music is coming around again and especially glad that Eric Benet is representing! (Oh, and I agree that it's hard to find positive rather than negative responses on a lot of issues, music being one!! The internet is dangerous! wink )

I suggest you take a listen to his "Lost In Time" CD. Dude has no problems at all with falsetto. When you have a heavy natural voice, the "texture" of your falsetto tends to be a little different than someone who doesn't.

Wasn't his last album released in November or December of 2010? He's going back to the old way of releasing records. razz

The coda is heavenly. His vocals get better with age.

Okay, I'm a fan again. I took a break after the whole Halle thing... I guess because all those love songs etc rang hollow when he was out there swinging on my girl... but hell she's moved on (got bigger fish to fry with baby daddy drama) ... and he has too (new wife and baby on the way). shrug

Besides... he got a young one on the way...Baby got to get a new pair of shoes... lol

I'm glad he still out there doing it.

I agree. His falsetto is okay for adlibs or for shorter segments of a melody, but it's something that I find uncomfortable to listen to all throughout a song. It's not that bad, but it just sounds like he is struggling and he comes off sounding a bit too whiny to my ears.

Eric's obviously not a bad singer, but his falsetto stuff just makes me appreciate guys like Prince even more. Somebody pointed out on another thread that Eric's falsetto is more reminiscent of his contemporaries (D'Ang / Max) than Prince's, so perhaps that comparison isn't fair in the end.

I'm glad, too, prodigalfan, and I'm glad you're glad.... 'cause I hung in there and I'm happy that others are coming back! wink

I like it, but it's sounds a lot like "Sometime I Cry" which I LOVE. This will for sure be ripping through the smooth R&B stations.

I'm another one of those folks who lost interest in Eric Benét. For me it was back in 2008 or so, after he released that "Love & Life" album.

But anyways.... forget about all that, it's been announced that he'll be playing his first ever Australian show next month.

After hearing this new song of his I will most definitely be there.

It's either that or avoid later sorrow! lol

I've always enjoyed his music. My favorite album of his is Hurricane. I hope he doesn't get stuck in the ballad-only r&b genre though. He can do so much more. Spanish Fly was a great dance track.

I have to agree with your statement. I just ;listened again and noticed that my favorite parts of the song were when he was singing in his lower register. I prefer his natural male voice. Like the one he used in Pretty Baby. <---- I really love that song. smile

Eric is DYNAMITE, one of my favorite male singers. His falsetto is one of the best in the industry besides maybe Rahsaan and Stokley. Just phenomenal range and his music is such quality!!! I need another duet with Tamia..... they are like peanut butter & jelly goodness!

Stevie Wonder = EARTH
Prince = WIND
Chaka Khan = FIRE
Sade = WATER
