FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART (from 'A Time 2 Love')

Being a Stevie Wonder fan means that you have to swallow the occasional serving of cheese in between all the good stuff. But I just can't swallow this load of out of date Primula. Next to this, 'I Just Called' sounds like 'Reign In Blood'.

[Edited 9/11/11 11:23am]

I think cheese gets a bad rap. After all, don't most people love it? A cheesy song doesn't automatically mean it's a bad song. FWIW, "From the Bottom of My Heart" is one of my favorites on A Time 2 Love.

As someone said,"I Just Called To Say I Love You" isn't a terrible song,it's just the cheesy production. This song was originally written in 1976....if it had been recorded and released back then,I bet it would have sounded much better. We can blame it on 80s technology smile

I'm not too crazy about "Part-Time Lover".When it was released,I thought it was too trendy and lightweight for an artist like Stevie Wonder.

I know I'm gonna take some heat for saying this,but....I don't really like "Master Blaster (Jammin)" boxed lol

You know what- it literally took me until last year to really appreciate the brilliance of this song. I thinks some songs we get used to hearing all our lives and we don't take the time to really listen to them. I was just sitting there listening to Hotter Than July and it hit me.

Jungle Fever. Ick. Ebony & Ivory (although I believe Paul wrote that).

Also, I love everythong on MJ's "Bad" except for "Just Good Friends", that flaming turd of a duet with Stevie.

Personally . I think we are all Boring with No Lives cause all we do is talk about Prince,Criticize and Gossip. I need a Horny Man is what I Need and probably so do most of yas. We are Sexually Frustrated what we R... Amen..!!! - zelaire

There`s nothing really wrong with his version but when you compare Aretha`s "Until You Come Back To Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)" with Stevie's his version sounds weak.

I've said it before, but I prefer his version (although they're both great). shrug Aretha's is confident and sassy while Stevie's is melancholy and desperate. His take resonates more with the lyrics to me.

Good Joke

Wasn't joking. It was a cheesy song on a mediocre album.

You Trippin. Thats a good song on a good album

Amid the fallout from the chaos of earlier posts, I'd like to add to the list if it's OK. Upset Stomach , which played for thirty seconds in The Last Dragon was about as much of that turd I could take. Bye crazy people.

For me instrumentally Stevie's is somewhat thin sounding. I would have loved for him to re-record it in the mid '70s.

See, I think it has that charming late '60s/early '70s sound. And I simply adore his vocals on it. music

It's not really a "bad song", the approach is questionable.

Herbie Hancock and Greg Phillinganes came up with a different arrangement on...

Yeah I think Stevie totally missed the mark - which is rare for him - on this song.

I don't think he did Tim. For what he wanted to achieve with it (a massive hit) it DEFINITELY worked. cool Nothing more nothing less

I'm trying to remember whether Stevie or Greg Philinganes did the synth solo. Either way, this is one of my top 5 synth solos in an 80s song.

It was probably Greg. Stevie is not listed as a musician on the album.

From Wiki

  • Sounds engineered: Ken Caillat and Tom Jones
  • Percussion: Paulinho Da Costa, Ollie E. Brown
  • Keyboards: Stefan Stefanovic
  • Saxophones: Kim Hutchcroft, Larry Williams
  • Synclavier keyboards, digital guitar and rubboard: Christopher Currell
  • Synthesizers: John Barnes, Michael Boddicker, Greg Phillinganes, Christopher Currell, Rhett Lawrence, David Paich
  • Piano: John Barnes
  • Rhythm arrangement: Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones and Christopher Currell
  • Horn arrangement: Jerry Hey
  • Synthesizer programming: Larry Williams, Eric Persing, Steve Porcaro
  • Midi saxophone solo: Larry Williams

The synth solo is by Stevie....The synths are by Greg.

I like the album but I think that there are too many sappy ballads on it.The album needs more jams like "So What The Fuss"! Funk it up,a bit.

Yeah, that ranks up there.

It's hard to believe that he wrote most of this song around the time he wrote "Songs In The Key Of Life."
