Peter Gabriel- So This album besifdes having some of the best vidoes ever made[I Would take Sledgehammer & Big Time over any MJ Video anyday]
The album is very experimental, mixing pop with motown, african sounds, rock guitars, synths, percusision in such a great manor.

Peter said he really liked Otis Redding when he was going to school, and Sledgehammer was his attempt at doing an Otis/Stax song. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. Classic breakthrough album
Nothing is fucking with Sledgehammer. That build up and the call and response "I kicked the habit..this is the new stuff..feeling the rhythm" part...damn.
I dislike Big Time though in a big way.

The worldly influences can be heard in 3, but they are more notorious in 4.
The four albums that preceded So are, in my opinion, far superior (although I do like So). It's him following the path that started with The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (his last Genesis album), that is, experimental pop but less progressive than before. More straightforward tunes. | |

No doubt it's a great album, and someone mentioned Otis Redding...but has anyone noticed the similarities between Sledgehammer and Superstition?
