I'm sorry All Things Must Past IS the Album of the 20th Century I'm gonna piss off a lot of people with this one. But Screw Thriller, Screw Purple Rain, Screw Plastic Ono Band, Screw Nevermind, Screw REVOLVER!
George Harrison's - All Things Must Pass, is the ultimate album. It's clear to me that by this time he had truly surpassed all the beatles, including John.
I listen to this album, and I don't know how people do not know about it. Fucking amazing!

I dunno. It's definitely a great ablum, but it benefits from him only being able to get 2 songs on each Beatles album for the preceding several years and having a huge backlog of top-notch material. One wonders if he'd had a little more creative longevity if he hadn't shot his load so quickly with this album. I find that a lot of the great songs on it get lost amongst themselves.

Nah i j ust think he became way too self indulgent. I mean I love hindustani Indian music as much as the next guy. But I wouldnt spend a whole decade playing it.

Yeah, fair enough, I hear that in the album. But fuck it, he'd been pushed into a corner for so long...

You tend to wonder why they pushed him back. I think John and Paul might've been threatened. I recall john telling Paul, that soon George was gonna surpass them writing wise, during the white album

John reckoned that Something was the best song on Abbey Road. And indeed it was. And then they split. By 1974 they were all pretty much spent anyway.

And I presume you've heard every album made in the 20th century?

Actually... I have from the Dixieland Jass Band from 1917 All the way to DMX 1999

And I don't hear this opinion stated much, but I always loved George's voice.

It's an amazing album, definately up there with the greatest albums ever made, and certainly the best solo offering by a Beatle, although i admit it does have a bit of a compilation/thrown-together feel about it. The follow-up "Living in The Material World", has a better flow and is hightly underrated, i reccomend checking that one out aswell if you haven't already. We're here, might as well get into it.

the art of dying is one of my favorite songs

Don't know about this. Personally I find Rated R stronger.

and with good reason! as his post-beatles output clearly shows
[Edited 9/2/11 0:11am] The Compromise Theory:
Based on my analysis, I believe the government faked the plane crash and demolished the WTC North Tower with explosives. The South Tower, in a simultaneous but unrelated plot was brought down by actual terrorists. Is it a deal?

Eh, sides five and six bring the album down quite a bit. Too much wanking.
I really can not see rating George in the same league as John and Paul. He shone very brightly for a brief period of time but he in no way came close to achieving what John and Paul did.

Why did George write the kind of songs he wrote and utilize "Eastern" influuences (i.e. Buddhism)? Because he wrote about and lived what he believed. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

It is a tremendous, epic album for sure.
But at times - especially on the uptempo tracks - Phil Spector's production really annoys me. Too much. Too glossy, too big. Takes the edge off of some of it.
And I think it would have been tighter without sides 5 or 6. Those are throwaway jams. Nice for a deluxe reissue w/ bonus material.. but he should have kept it to a nice 2 LP set.
That said, it's still perhaps #2 on my list of all post-Beatles solo albums, behind Plastic Ono Band * * *
