The Jam...

...Start!

Sound familiar?
Supposedly Taxman was inspired by the Batman Theme.

The Jam was inspired by the Beatles, though, not the other way around.

It's kind of like a sample, you can see them playing the Rickenbackers, they have the Lennon glasses, but the song is totally different, so I don't think it was unintentional. Surely they knew Taxman

Yes, clearly Taxman preceded Start!

Different song no doubt but they took plenty of signature Taxman parts.
1. Basics of the bassline
2. General rhythm guitar groove
3. Guitar solo vibe (which was played by Paul McCartney)

Killer track!

Love the way the vocal glides on top of the instruments with a totally different feel.

The vocal is so jazzy in rhythm.

No-one else's vocals sound like the Beatles in terms of feel and tone!

Genius!

Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

JoeTyler

sounds like the Batman song of the 60s tv series lol

anyway, this is the song that created the whole new wave genre, nearly 10 years before it actually exploded around the world.

oh, yeah I have no doubt they took directly from the song!

But I personally have no problem with that as long as the "copy" song is original. I feel like the Jam still doesn't really sound like The Beatles, they are putting their own spin on on it, using these familiar elements

But it does say something IMO that the bassline and the groove are the hookiest part of the Jam's song! lol

Yeah I had never noticed that before reading it here, but now I hear it "Bat Man!!"

Not as bad as My Sweet Lord, I guess lol
