Highlights of Eric Clapton and Wynton Marsalis’ performances together earlier this year will be released on CD and DVD this month.
The pair were accompanied by by Dan Nimmer (piano), Carlos Henriquez (bass), Ali Jackson (drums), Marcus Printup (trumpet), Victor Goines (clarinet), Chris Crenshaw (trombone, vocals), Don Vappie (banjo) and Clapton’s longtime keyboardist/sideman Chris Stainton.
Marsalis says the group combined the sound of an early blues jump-band with the sound of New Orleans jazz.
The album and DVD are titled Wynton Marsalis & Eric Clapton Play the Blues – Live from Jazz at Lincoln Center. Both will be released on Tuesday, September 13.
CD and DVD Tracklisting:
1. “Ice Cream”

I wonder if PBS will be selling this triple the price for pledge week. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Don't give them any ideas: they might request a "mere $80" extra for the DVD cover coffee mug. [Edited 9/6/11 9:58am]
