I'll take Luther's version. I love his approach to this. It is more tender than Major Harris' version. However, Major Harris did an excellent job also.

This is one of those examples of a timeless and beautiful song. This song has been made a few times and I like several of the versions I've heard. I even like Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams' version.

I didn't know Jackie Moore redid this with Barry White also.

I vote for Major Harris' version. The girl's moaning alone, is worth at least 3 stars!!....HAM MERCY!!

I would have to vote for Major Harris. Because he lived in my apartment building briefly last year & he is in bad shape to. I kind of felt sorry for him. He gave me his jacket though,That I will treasure forever. He said he was asked to go on tour overseas last year. But there is no way that man can be on anyones tour or stage for that matter.

Knock a brotha upside the head with a noodle, I was not aware that this song was a cover all along, I learn something every time I'm here. On a scale, my favor goes a little over to Luther, his tender accents to it is just enough.

edit 1

Let me clarify that I didn't know it was covered more than once, the other examples are nice as well. Still going with Luther though, that is all.

Tough call. I like both versions. But my vote goes to Luther since I listen to his version more often.

Hate to hear something like that! Too many musicians from his era have ended up in difficult circumstances. I'm curious, KCOOLMUZIQ, why did he give you his jacket?

I shouldn't even say anything because my Libra personality (or something!) makes me no good at these decisions! To me, the two versions are so different that I can't make up my mind. I really like them both! Guess I wouldn't help in a serious poll!! confused

Major Harris. Better arrangement, and like shorttrini said, it's more sensual with the girl moaning in the background.

Just like Luther made, "A House Is Not A Home" all his own, Major Harris did the same thing for this song. I cannot imagine, anyone else singing this but him.

Thank U for acknowledging my story. Yes its sad that he would end up in a halfway house in his later years after having such a successful career. But I can imagine he got a lot of p---y from that sexy hit song & did a lot of drugs & partying.

He was carrying a bag of clothes one day. Told me he wanted me to have this brand new jacket his daughter gave him,He only accepted $3 for it.

Right. Lutha's good but it's too adult contemporary for my liking (thanks a lot saxophone lol ).

I don't know what to say---except DAMN! How sad is that! Unfortunately what you imagine about him is probably true and probably what helped put him in those circumstances. When people are basking in the glory of their popularity, they don't pay enough attention to their future. Even today, so many entertainers are living the "good life" and we can probably tell the ones who may end up like this later...if not sooner. There are lessons that can be learned......
