In the late 80s,LaToya wrote a book about her life. She claims that,in 1987,Marlon played his album ('Baby Tonight') for Katherine and she complimented him on it.But when he left the room,Katherine said "Why doesn't Marlon just give it up? He can't sing!"

That came from Stevie Wonder though.

Yep lol, I remember reading that too. Ms. Katherine may be soft spoken, but I believe she has another side to her. She has too especially dealing with Joe's crazy ass all these years lol. I wouldn't be suprised.

If Katy thought Baby Tonight sucked, what did she think about LaToya's records? biggrin

Marlon did most on his record, producing, composing, songwriting, playing most instruments, singing lead and backup. It was a strong effort. Only problem is he never was a lead singer. His solo effort did pretty well with Don't Go reaching number 2 on the US RnB chart. Pretty good considering his poor vocals.

He wasn't meant to be a lead singer. He should of kept on doing what he did with "Don't stand another chance" and also this cut which he also produced and wrote for Janet.

(the brothers singing backup)

La Toya. I don't know why she didn't just hook up with Prince when she had the chance. She would have at least got 1 good song out of the deal.

'Toya by far. Marlon's is at least doable. His voice doesn't make me climb the walls. He never bragged about his singing skills anyway lol that's why he did that album and moved on. lol

This single "Don't Go" which was written and produced by Marlon reached number 2 on the US RnB chart. It's actually pretty strong effort from Marlon although his vocals are mediocre.

Marlon played a lot of the instruments on the album. On the title track as an example he played all instruments except the horns.

Marlon was actually BARELY heard on his brothers' Steeltown and Motown recordings least up until 1973, '74. neutral Usually Michael's background vocals would often overpower his - easily. He had a few vocal spots (like on "I Bet You", I think.) Joe never let Marlon sing in the early years. All he was told to do was dance and shake a tambourine. Michael often said Marlon got punished the most during the rehearsals...and I can believe it.

I prefer Marlon's vocals over LaToya's. I could see why Michael and Jermaine shared lead vocals during the heyday of the Jackson 5. Marlon voice was more appropiate for a background singer. The first time I ever heard him sing lead was 'Body' from the Victory album which was good but I cant help he had some studio help.

I agree she should've hook with Prince he couldve unleash a 'freak' side of her as he did with Sheena Easton. Who knows she couldve recorded 'Nasty Girl'. bananadance
