Aaliyah by far. She had jazz personality, G mentality, beats of Soul Train lol but seriously Aaliyah is really the only one in that list.

lol thumbs up!

I also agree that Beyonce would still have been as big as she is now whether or not Aaliyah was still here.

Do you people ever get tired of talking about Beyonce? Like seriously....

Ciara- talented dancer but thats pretty much it not a fan though

Aaliyah- sweet girl and I liked some of her music not ground breaking but it was good for what it was.

Keri- ahhhh I shake my ass in the club to her music thats about it LOL not a fan

Beyonce- I dont know what is the big deal about this girl.. I never did I was 11 when she came out and now at 19 still dont get her hoopla. Yes she can sing but her singing isnt anything special when she isnt screaming and oversinging which she does alot. Her music sucks. While she does have stage presence, I find alot of her performances to be to overhype and just okay or good and not spetacular. I have never been BLOWN away by any of her performances. Maybe because I grew up looking at real natural entertainers like Michael Jackson, Janet, James Brown, Tina etc...not a fan

[Edited 9/2/11 13:35pm]

Totally agree MJS---this is the most overrated chick on the planet. She screams and doesn't sing and paints herself to resemble a drag queen. I think her father as manager deliberately used the deeply rooted colorism prejudice within the black community to make sure that Beyonce was the stand out. Tell the truth people---if there would have been a group of all women who weren't dark skinned, who would have been the standout? They deliberately cast her with darker singers and other actresses to try to make it look like she was the "natural stand out" when in fact they were using colorism to manufacture her overblown image in the first place. I remember back in the day when Jodeci was big, all the girls thought Dalvin and Devante (the lighter skin guys) were better looking and KC and Jojo were "ugly" because they were "too dark"....The pancake makeup and ridiculous lighting used in Dreamgirls exaggerated Beyonce's features to appear more white for a reason....but joke's on her because J-Hud got her much deserved Oscar for the performance!

[Edited 9/2/11 21:08pm]

I think it more so has to do with the system and politics. Attraction and completion has always been factors for successful black women.

I just wish artists like Erykah Badu, Janelle Monae or Jill Scott got more CREDIT because they exactly make more creative material and I find them to be better singers than Beyonce. Now of course they probably wont never be pop starts because thats not their forte and I wouldnt want them to be but they do deserve more credit for their MUSIC and being creative.

I wouldnt mine Beyonce if they just stop treating her like shes the second coming of Bob Dylan or fuckin MJ... like seriously.. I just find it so laughable how they paint her to be such a genius, innovative and original when she copies, follows trends, sells sex and makes fast food music. Yes shes talented but their is nothing special about her talent. All she can do is sing and has stage presence.Even in her performances I personally am not entertained or moved with her slow ballads or fast pace. She does not connect with her audience at all or show real human emotion LOL. To me, I think she finds enjoyment in hearing herself sing and oversinging to prove she can sing. LOL Im thinking like B we know you can sing just sing the damn song and stop overexaggerating the vocals.

I think its disrespectful to compare ANY of the legends to ANY of the current pop tarts now because their is no comparision. The ONLY artist that I think favors MJ in regards to being a versitile talent is probably Janalle Monae. She writes her own shit for the most part, is creative, doesnt follow trends, has stage presence, great performer and dancer, good music, takes risks, is original compared to her peers, INVOLVED with the production and creation of her work and videos. Attractive girl but doesnt display her body. Im really rooting for her to make it.

I actually love Keri...since she had her features on the first "Shock Value" album, I eagerly anticipated her solo CD, and thoroughly enjoy both of them. "The Way You Love Me" and "Toy Soldier" on her most recent CD are GREAT.

Ciara had one song that I really liked, "Like A Boy," but everything else I've heard from her does nothing for me.

Aaliyah is someone I've wanted to get into for quite some time, as her singles were always very strong, but I've just never listened to a whole album.

Beyonce, IMO, has gotten stronger as time has progressed. Her first CD was a snoozefest, but as she kept going the releases got stronger and stronger.

=0P

Aaliyah is the only one who had music that I actually liked and bought. Ciara and Keri. shrug And I was never a fan of the way Beyonce sings, but DC3 had like 3, maybe 4 songs that I liked. Bey as a solo artist? Run for the hills...

I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

1. Aaliyah didn't have a throne. Beyonce was already the bigger name in DC. Monica and Brandy had more success than Aaliyah did.

2. Aaliyah never messed with Jay. I wish people would stop trying to make this happen. They were close to each other because of Aaliyah & Dame. That's it.

3. Keri is neither a strong writer or singer. She is not a trend-setter (lmao) and no probably not, Polow helped her a great deal.

4. People can talk shit about Ciara's vocals all they want but I want someone to try to come for her when it comes to her dancing. At least she has that aspect against Keri so it could thus be said that CiCi is the bigger talent. Keri isn't a beast in anything.

5. Yes, Ciara is done.

Monica? You sure about that buddy?

Monica has 3 Hot 100 #1's and 7 R&B 1's, Billboard Awards, AMA and a Grammy award....... she was 23 on Billboard's most successful R&B stars of the last 25 years. Also the youngest artist to have their first 7 songs go Top 10 on the Hot 100. A feat that was matched until Gaga in 2010. wink

I will always love Aaliyah, she and Monica were my favorites growing up. Monica could get on any stage and just sang her ass off and Aaliyah always had the flyest dance moves & music. Brandy bored me and she was ugly. lol

I love Destiny's Child and Beyonce's first 2 albums.... we have a love/hate relationship now lol

I love Keri's harmonies and songwriting (nothing major but really nice for today's generation).

Ciara is only good as a back up dancer, she sucks ass.

I agree with you...Janelle is the real deal...Erykah and Jill are great soul artists...but Janelle is more versatile...semi off topic: did you hear her I want you back cover? It's almost scary....(Ironic that Beyonce did a cover of the same song years ago...which can't hold a candle to Janelle's version..)...

Aaliyah and Beyonce are too different for Beyonce to have "inherited" her throne. Aaliyah was mainly appealing to r&b/hip hop/urban audiences, and Beyonce did the same kind of music, but with pop undertones and her goal was to crossover with the group and solo. So no, I don't see them as the same kind of artist. Though Aaliyah was popular before her death, you have to remember her album was dropping on the charts after peaking at #2, and then it went to #1 after her death. Though I love Aaliyah, it seems people are re-writing history and forgetting Brandy and Monica were more popular in mainstream, and I believe Aaliyah would have done well though at that point, there was no crossover single yet.

Ciara and Keri Hilson are just artists of the minute who never had "an impact" Ciara is just a fabulous dancer with cute looks, and Keri Hilson, I only like for singing with Timbaland a few years ago. They're nothing special we haven't seen a million times.

beyonce just had better PR, Daddy/family behind her, more opportunities, and she has a cross over appeal.

I think beyonce can "sing" better than Keri, Ciara, but Ciara can dance better. I don't think Beyonce has better music.

Honestly i don't think Aaliyah would be that big if she were alive now. Look at Brandy and Monica.

Brandy had already crossed over and her popularity faded since 2002 though she put out fab albums in 2002 and 2004 that many have called underrated. Monica made it mainstream too, Aaliyah not as much though that was changing slowly in the late 90's and could have happened with her last album though it was dropping. It may have done about the same as Full Moon and maybe she would have done one more album with Timbaland or re-vamped herself with the Neptunes and it would have complimented her moves. However, she was respected for her acting from what I remember and was passioniately speaking about her roles in the Matrix sequels and Queen of the Damned sometime before her death, so acting would have been there if not music.

In terms of material I prefer most of Aaliyah's work to most of what Beyonce has put out thus far....but yea totally right. Would have have said the exact same thing but was too lazy to type it all out.

I think Aaliyah would have gave Beyonce big competition. Aaliyah was bigger than Beyonce when she was alive and had just as much talent and was prettier anyway.

and on top of that, she wasn't as near generic as Beyonce was
