This came on PBS years ago. I bought the album when it came out. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Ron was taking a short break from Mr. Biggs' albums. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. It didn't get any airplay because there wasn't any Mr. Biggs soap opera slow jams. The album was on Steven Spielberg's label Dreamworks, which didn't last that long. A lot of people don't consider PBS cool, so don't watch it or seek out its programming. They have cable/satellite with hundreds of channels of nothing. PBS is pretty much the only channel I watch other than the local rerun station. I brought this album back in the winter of 2003, when it came out. It was so interesting because I really didn't know what to expect. Ronald was riding high from the whole Mr. Biggs/R. Kelly saga/Body Kiss-era. This was a definite surprise. Ronald and Burt really worked well together and it remains one of Ronald's finest yet underrated moments. Should've got a heap of praise and Grammy recognition. Great album.

I purchased this CD when it came out as well, though I think I may have only listened to it once. I love Burt Bacharach, and I love Ronald Isley, but something about this CD did not grab me on the first listen. In fact, my initial reaction was disappointment. Will need to go back and revisit it.

Damn..I didnt know Spielberg had a short-lived Record label @ one time..LOL...Not that it's a "shocker" cuz Steve got so much money he don't know what to do with it..
I watch PBS for it's many Docu-features and for it's Concerts...And I try to catch Tavis @ night if he's interviewing somebody i wanna see...

I never knew that about Spielberg either, but I do watch PBS frequently so I don't know how I missed this show.

Michael Douglas had a record label too. Nona Gaye was on it. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B.
