Is there NOTHING this new quazi-neo-SOUL/R&B and HIP HOP genre won't ruin?

Lawd,

I just got finished listening to something vaguely Rihanna sounding that's

been autotuned to death......

....and the worst part is that it stold the riff and tune from Annie Lennox. confused

It's just as bad as that tehcno crap out there.

Why is it that there are so many wonderful acts out there, but the only

shit playing radio stations is this garbage?

i'm so confused.

i thought neo-soul died years ago... and that rihanna was the antithesis. neo-soul was meant to be organic, instrument driven "throwback" sound right?... featuring the roots as the backing band?...

after a while its name got twisted into something else, i haven't really heard a true R&B song (minus Adele) in a few years now... i'd say the dance/techno sound ruined R&B/"black" music for a while now

who's the graphic girl?

I agree with you on those counts, it seems to me all genre's under the umbrella of R&B are really muddled right now.

Agreed with you on the question -- does "neo-soul" really belong in this conversation?

And if you haven't heard a "true R&B song", granted, they're harder to find, but there's plenty for you to enjoy. Unfortunately, you have to dig deeper than the radio and video channels.

So, your claim is that the only person singing R&B in years is a British white chick? rolleyes

This is usually where I'd rattle off about 10-12 R&B artists off the top of my head but fuck it...

I was with you until you said that sh*t. If that's what you believe then you don't need to know.

Radio has always used payola, ever since it began in the early 1900's.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

To me it seems that rap/hiphop is the only genre with ANY dignity left, though its slowly being killed by the talentless crunk fucks (Guccie Maine, and freaking WACKA FLOCKA FLAME) and by Soulja Boy types that cant really be described as rappers in any way + theres Young Money who can spit, but spit some of the wackest lines I've ever heard (And they are consistent about it to, every song has lines that make you laugh your ass off because of how horrible it was)

Hip-Hop officially lost it's dignity when Emininm became the best selling Hip-Hop artist of all time.

I take it you don't listen to bluegrass, which has never been mainstream, except maybe Flatt & Scruggs. razz

Lol, have you listened to

Marshal Mathers LP

Slim Shady LP

Eminem Show

I'm very sure you know NOTHING about hiphop since lyrically Em was one of the best ever. Though Encore was terrible, Relapse was good, and Recovery was good and the albums listed above are some of the best hiphop albums created.

He also ghostwrote Dres part if your one of the people who doesnt realize Dres just a producer and has never written shit.

Sorry for sounding like a dickrider but if you don't appreciate the talent of Em that ALL of the great rappers have recognized then you either dont know shit about hiphop or you havent listened to any of his songs (If you listened to the Encore songs, then your hate is understandable)

His rhyming makes Biggie and Pac look like amatuers, dont you remember when he mudered Jay on Renegade? He doesnt do shit for shock with the exception of Devils Night and Relapse. Most of what you would consider "shock" songs were songs made to imake fun of the people who said he was too violent, he always had a reason for saying what he said. Tyler the Creator is a shock artist, not Eminem. Did you listen to ANY of the songs posted? You obviously don't know shit about the technical side of rap.

I already know half the songs you posted, I know his music very well thanks, and I don't give a fuck about the technical side of rap. In terms of quality I think Eminem is in the pits.

Well, when it comes to concepts, subject matter, battle rap, rhyming, flow, and lyricisim hes undeniably one of the top. You don't have to like him but not respecting him is like not respecting Nas or Wu-Tang, it makes you look stupid.

Also, the technical side = quality.

Though recently, in Ems post Recovery songs its ok to say hes coming to the pits. His music has been tainted by the wack punchlines and puns that you except to find on a Young Money artists song (Though his rhyming is still top notch) he also seems to have run out of shit to rap about.

First of all calling me stupid for not respecting someone is stupid. Eminem is one of the least respectful people in music.

and as for "concepts, subject matter, battle rap, rhyming, flow, and lyricisim "

Eminem having the best Concepts? Subject Matter? Lyricism?

There is virtually no soul/R&B on radio/tv these days. Very few exceptions (e.g. Pretty Wings, Fuck You...)

Songs are often grouped into a genre depending on the image or persona of the artist(s).
They sound very similar in style. Most have (in my opinion) horrible production, with horrible techno/dance synths.

If it is a woman on the track, they call it R&B. If has a black man or rapper it is called hip hop. If it has a white girl it's usually called pop.

What a sorry state the music industry is in.

No, I have not listened to those albums. I have better things to do with my time and I prefer music with substance. I've heard enough of his "music" to form my own opinion of it. And, for your information, I was listening to Hip-Hop WAY before he was even thought of. Hell, he may not have even been born when I started listening to Hip-Hop. lol
