My point actually related more to the gradual erosion of her artistic ambitions over the past decade. Confessions is great for what it is, but it's no ROL. Her lyrics, in particular, have suffered.

Agree. And she needs to work with songwriters and then take the tunes to whatever producer. The lack of identifiable melodies is getting to be a problem. Even on Confessions the catchy hooks were mostly samples.

You two nailed it. Thats exactly the problem with her current output. I'm actually embarrassed by some of her lyrics, they're just too simple and her songs dont even tell a story anymore, just random phrases thrown together. I'm not even a picky person with lyrics, Gaga (well most pop) has some crappy lyrics but they work with the songs, like Madonnas simple lyrics used too as well.

I also never understood the love for Confessions. The music was better than American Life but the lyrics were just as bad. Her voice has been lacking in character since AL as well which has severely affected how good the songs could sound.

Madonna and Salma Hayek — both stunning — were spotted chatting in between courses at the Gucci Award dinner event during Venice Film Festival.
Then Madonna took the stage to award the first Gucci Award for Women in Cinema.
Madonna said…

“it’s surreal to be in Venice since I was here early in my career, filming my Like a Virgin video.”

Then she asked for a drum roll and the audience is obliging.

And the winner is… American film and television actress, Jessica Chastain!

I'm happy to see that she is bringing more producers on board.William Orbit is a great producer, but I want this to be a more well-rounded album.I don't want it to sound like ROL Part 2.

Video: Hear A New Track By Madonna's Producer

Friday – Sep

Friday – September 02, 2011 – 9:50am

Summer may now be coming to a close, but there's still time for one more hot jam! In her video for "Cool Love," newcomer Indigo Charlie recounts a summer fling to a hot beat designed by another Indigo, producer Hardy "Indiigo" Muanza. Yes, that's the same guy who DJ'd Madonna's private birthday party in NYC on Aug. 14, 2011 and is also working with the Material Girl on her next top-secret album. (Coincidentally, he’s also managing Madge's new boytoy, breakdancer Brahim Zaibat, as well as her dancer and choreographer Shay Normann).

"It was truly delicious working with Hardy Muanza on 'Cool Love!'" Charlie says. "I feel our connection is cosmic and we were drawn together musically in a divine way. We had to link up -- I am Indigo and they are The Indigos. How special is that? I look forward to the new songs we are creating together and continuing to surround myself with a creative and nurturing team."

Oh come on,you can't expect Madonna to make another ROL lol That's like expecting Prince to make another 1999 or expecting Janet to make another Rhythm Nation.Amazing,career-defining albums can't be duplicated.

Listen to American Life to Confessions and you see how they improved..I dont think that's a fair assesment.

look who back!!!

did folks ever think sher lyrics were that great? i mean, they have always been GOOD for what they are - throwaway pop lyrics

every little thing that you say or do / im hung up on you

that's brilliant for dance/pop!

what, are the lyrics to get together or beat goes on THAT inferior to cherish or lucky star???

I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

Madonna does pop/dance music so I don't really expect alot of lyrical depth in her music.Especially these days, when nobody is really writing deep, profound songs. She's not Bob Dylan lol I think recent songs like "Miles Away","Jump","Devil Wouldn't Recognize You" and "Like It Or Not" are well-written.

"Hung Up" and "Sorry" are catchy and fun.If you're expecting another "Oh Father",you might be disappointed. She's already done that.

She's already done it, sure, but why should we expect or accept that as she gets older that her lyrics get weaker and more shallow?

I just don't think she's in that frame of mind anymore.ROL has very deep, introspective lyrics but in order to come up with something like that, she has to go through all that again (soul searching, having children, getting into Kabbalah, reflecting on her mother's death, etc).I don't think she want to dig that deep anymore.I could be wrong, though.
