Saw them in the late 80's in NYC at the Ritz. Fishbone opened (on Halloween no less). Both bands participated in each others show.

An iconic moment I wouldn't trade for the world...

They are broadcasting a concert from the UK on August 30 where they are going to play the new album in it's entirety. You can view it in select theaters. I am going to the second showing on September 1. They are a great live band, I am anxious to see what the new guitarist sounds like.

I've liked most RHCP songs I've heard. Need to take a good listen to their whole catalogue one of these days.

I'm really feeling their single for the new album "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie".

How can I stand 2 stay where I am? / Poor butterfly who don't understand.

What? After Blood, Sugar they just became a bit MOR imo. Still good songs, but they lost the spark they had kept up for a long time prior.

You don't like One Hot Minute? I kind of see that as their last worthy album. To me, its their best album, but w/e. I love how its such a somber, experimental record and then.... Flatline. The next several albums are just basically remakes of "Scar Tissue" and "Other Side".

After Blood, Sugar I stopped buying their albums and listened to my friends cd's who became a fan when I more or less stopped. I do like One Hot Minute, and I liked Californication and Stadium.. too, but just not enough for me to want to own anything anymore.

I agree, that there are ups and downs in their production. This latest single release "The Adventures of Raindance Maggie" has not convinced me yet and I seriously doubt if "I'm with you" will be a good album. Anyhow, they are great entertainers and live band too, so let's see what we'll get on 30th August.

Blood Sugar and Mother's Milk...their best works....after Blood Sugar they became (slowly) a pathetic version of themselves...

I appreciate John Frusciante's choice to leave the band...his recent solo works are way better than the last 10 years with Red Hot...

Yes i liked Californication too... (I bought that album when I was a teenager and I didn't know their previous works at the time)but it was the beginning of the end... sad

Their songwriting (lyrics aside lol ) continues to improve. I love the funky shit through BSSM, but melodically and harmonically they continue to interest me.

I like that they are a combination of silliness and seriousness. They can act like idiots one minute and the ultimate sensitive band the next. They play like men, but have the spirit of youth.

Stadium Arcadium was a long listen, but ultimately may have been their best collection of songs, if it was not their masterpiece (which I don't think it was wink )

Yeah One Hot Minute is the last album where they were really evolving. After that Fruciante brought them back to Blood Sugar territory and they seemed to work within those boundaries ever since, but writing good material.

Yeah always liked them but i'm not feeling this new single

I think they're over and done with frankly , without John

(not saying those albums where he's not on aren't any good but he defined their sound the last 10 years)

I enjoyed the song... but it wasn't great and i have only listened to it a few times. John is one of the greatest guitar influences of the past 2 decades now.... It's a shame he left.

You know their history is quite odd looking back. In the beginning Hillel Slovak was the guitarist but they couldn't get off the ground commercially (guess they were just too weird for the mainstream). Oddly enough when Frusciante joined, that's when they start to find their ground commercially (Mother's Milk). But that only lasted until another album (Bloodsugarsexmajik) until drug problems caused Frusciante out of the group and Kiedis constantly struggled with his addiction when Navarro joined for One Hot Minute. Then they were in limbo until Frusciante got sober and rejoined for Californication. Now they have a new guitarist, who is Frusciante's best friend, so we'll see where this new album goes. I won't judge before I hear the album itself.

Yeah, the guy's have gone through a lot of crazy shit. But i respect them so much, for going through all this and there musicianship. Funky white guys playing some of the loudest combos of funk and rock that went to the mainsatream. I don't think they get enough credit actually, there a very important band....... one thing that always stuck with me about the band.

My aunt is a DJ and has been one for 5 different stations in my home town an alternative one, a modenr rock one, a top 40 station, a classic rock station, and R&B/funk/soul station. She said teh Chili Peppers is the only band they ever played at all 5 stations cool

So that show's how far they reached.

they stuck with it, and went from being an underground group of weirdos to being one of the biggest current mainstream rock bands.

I think in the world of mainstream "Alternative" music (if that makes sense), they are probaly seen as one of the top five of all time

But maybe not seen historically [yet] as important like true mainstream bands like Stones, U2, etc.

They'll get to be in that group soon but knowing them, they're so young acting (hard to believe Anthony and Flea will be 50 next year) that I think they'll carry on their way until they can't and that's when they'll probably start saying it but until then, rock on.
