At first I thought this was from another Beck-produced album, but after reading the article, I see Stage Whisper is more a collection of leftovers from IRM--which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But I'm more of a fan of the Air/Jarvis Cocker collaboration 5:55. That album is dreamy.

5:55 is a fantastic album, being a big fan of Air helped quite a bit too. I did really enjoy IRM though, and it's probably now my favorite Gainsbourg album.

There are songs on IRM I really like--"Dandelion" comes to mind immediately--but to me 5:55 is a lot smoother and more cohesive. Plus I'm not really a fan of Beck so of course I won't like IRM as much. Seeing her live in support of that record was interesting. It was obvious that she's much more comfortable acting than on stage with a band.

Interesting you should mention that. I did not get to see her live, but the few promotional things I did watch, did show her to be quite uncomfortable with the whole thing.
There was one netstream video thing from kcrw radio with Charlotte, Beck and band performing tracks from IRM in kcrw's studio, she looked like a little scared rabbit hiding in the corner, but seemed to ease up a little after a few songs, only to clam up again when she and Beck were interviewed afterward. Every question she was asked, she looked to Beck for the answer, and seemed to be almost seeking his permission to reply. It looked very awkward.
She is a sweetheart though and i'm looking forward to hearing more material.
Eh.. I feel a bit indifferent about the song. Like sextonseven said, it's reminiscent of Goldfrapp which isn't a good thing, imo. I like Goldfrapp, but it doesn't seem to suit her.

Yes, it's like she's still the actress and needs direction on how she should perform.
I saw two gigs here in NY. The first time she was very stiff. The second time in a bigger venue, she was a little better having gotten a few shows under her belt, but still had nowhere near the stage presence that most performing artists have. For that second leg of the tour she and the band did a faithful cover of Serge's "Couleur Café".

I just read that Beck has just returned from a few weeks in France working with Charlotte on new music.
So maybe this "Stage Whisper" album is them putting out the IRM leftovers and remixes before something new?
