His vocal performance is particularly brilliant here, and the song is very good. However the album, Vibrator, had in my opinion some flaws, which was something new, as the three previous ones had been top from beginning to end.

For me Vibrator is the one TTD album on which I completely love every single song worship. I love his other albums too, but Vibrator for me is his best work from start to finish.

Holding On To You is my favourite song ever by any artist: it's just pefect IMO.

It's definitely in my Top Ten in that category. I understand.

I have loved this song since I first heard it.

I can SO relate to the lyrics and the performance.

good to know George appreciated TTD.

Holding on To You is just aiight to me. It feels forced. I'd say its kinda overrated among TTD fans.

I guess I'll have to go get Neither Fish Nor Flesh after all these years and see what i've missed

I wouldn't call myself a TTD fan but there is no way that song could be overrated.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

the "not nearly as good part" was just a jok, and I don't really think it is a ripoff, but it did come after the morning papers, and when I first heard it it sounded like it was inspired by it. Maybe it's just a coincidence that they are similar....but I doubt it!

Maybe I don't like Vibrator as much because it's the only album of his that I got out of order. Every other one I got when they came out (except the last couple web releases) and liked them all. shrug

funny thet u mentioned that cuz I made a playlist with some love songs this week in which HOTY is followed by "Morning Papers", "Can't get you off my mind" by Lenny Kravitz and "Out of tears" by the Rolling Stones and this particular sequence of the playlist goes so well 2 my ears... smile

I just listened to Morning Papers tonight and I think it's great, but I don't totally relate to the jailbait subject matter

Yeah, I don't know why, it's a good album, it just never grabbed me.

Holding On to You always struck me as a Morning Papers ripoff

eek eek eek The Morning Papers????? falloff falloff OMG that songs is one of the most boring songs Prince ever did in his life. There is that outtake version though that is nicer IMO, but the album version of Morning Papers lacks all the emotion and heart which maket HOTY such a beautiful masterpiece music.

I do recommend his earlier Perfumed Pavilion (The Mo... Memories) (also included on the two-disc version of his Greatest Hits) to anyone who likes to hear Terence in this mode. It's on a par with HOTY, I think. nod

Good track, if I recall correctly it was the B side of Do You Love Me Like You Say?

Spun it quite a bit back in the day.

I wasn't saying which one was better, I was saying that I think TTD may have had The Morning Papers in mind when he started writing Holding on to You.

But it's not actually a ripoff. It's kind of like 3 Chains of Gold vs. Bohemian Rhapsody. I think it's obvious Prince was trying to write a similar kind of song, but they are still totally different in the details.

I know everyone loves Holding on to You, and that is fine, I like it too, it's just not my favorite TTD song.

I would need to listen to Morning Papers again, I never noticed any similarities hmmm.

Oh and I am sorry, I was mixing up Morning Papes with another track when I mentioned the unreleased version boxed. I hardly had any sleep nuts.

Another song that has a similar vibe to Holding On To You is TTD's version of "A change is gonna come" worship

The songwriting on this joint is nothing short of incredible. His vocal performance is flawless of course (goes without saying). His poetic gauge was well balanced on this gem.

Just watched this live version. He's probably the closest thing we've gotten to a "Sam Cooke" quality of a voice, since Sam's passing. I know I could be beheaded for that statement but hey, that's my opinion. razz Not saying he's Sam reincarnated, but the quality of his voice reminds me of Mr. Cooke.

When he says "She's my new religion, she's all I got", he almost makes me cry. His vocal performance is awesome. As I said, it is not my favourite TTD track, but in terms of vocal interpretation I'd give it the number 1.
