Janis Joplin Leaves Me Fucking Speechless...

This women is by far the greatest female singer I have ever heard. That's my honest opinion. I wanted to get into her music for the longest, but I didn't know where to start.

She's my favorite female vocalist, and she just made her way into my top 7. I don't see her leaving my top 7 as long as I'm living. I use to think Minnie Riperton was the greatest female vocalist(to me), but she's now #2. Janis has so much fucking soul...it's crazy

Her I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama! album will forever be my favorite Janis album.

I can listen to her all day. I wish kids of my generation would know go out and learn about her. She's hip, she's a rebel, she was pretty etc...I'm definitely going to let my girlfriend listen to her. She really like those soul-ful singers. She thinks Beyonce has soul neutral

But yeah, I'm a Janis Joplin high right now, and I doubt I come down.

Her gut wrenching, raw vocals are amazing. Her singing really moves me. Nothing fake here. No forced soul or anything. She was just singing from her heart. She was one of a kind. My Mom loves Janis. I grew up listening to her music around the house. Janis is awesome period.

I'm not a fan of her..... never been interested in her.

At least you appreciate Minnie, who I think is just summer rain in the month of May. biggrin

I love Janis, and sure tons of people will hate on here. But she is a legend either way and i love her raw vocals... they strike a nerve with me. Especially on the Pearl album

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I'm inclined to agree, the Org's comments on that tread notwithstanding.

Janis is cool but I think in terms of greatest female voices, Karen Carpenter, Billie Holiday, Gladys Knight, Dusty Springfield, Dinah Washington, Minnie, Aretha Franklin, Bessie Smith, Mary Wells and Phyllis Hyman have her beat in that department. The reason I dug her was because she was RAW. cool

Janis Joplin has earned her place in history. She ain't my favorite, though, and I don't own records by her. Nor will I anytime soon. Not really my style.

Enjoy listening to Janice, Tyler, and don't let the naysayers dampen your enthusiasm. She's not everyone's cup of tea but I certainly identified with her gutwrenching vocals when I was a raw teenager! Take another little piece of my heart now, Baby! cool

Monterey Pop is an iconic music oddyssey and Janice blew it out of the water with Ball and Chain--still one of my favs.

When you read her backstory leading up to this moment, it's almost like a triumphant occasion. Little town girl from the wrong side of the streets makes it big in an unusual way...
