Chaka Khan - Dare You To Love Me - the unreleased album Any more news as to whether Chaka's got the rights to this album? Such a shame it never came out.

Nope. A while ago she was talking about trying to acquire the rights to a lot of her unreleased stuff sitting in Warner Brother's vaults but I don't believe it's happened yet. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

According to wiki, all but three songs from the project have seen the light of day. Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

No. "Come 2 My House" is the album she recorded with Prince, which was released in 1998 on his NPG label. She did record one song with Prince for her "Dare" project, which was entitled "Pain" and eventually showed up on the soundtrack for "Living Single". "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! I know that she did "Come 2 My House" with P, but I thought that the project that "Pain" was on had more than one Prince song. Or was it another David Gamson project? I love the song "Pain." **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

If that's true, it would be interesting to see if someone could compile the original track listing as much as possible. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

1/2 of that project is floating around in soundtracks and other people's projects. Its def one of the STRONGEST albums by Chaka since "Whatcha Gonna Do For Me" IMO. Such a shame how that whole episode turned out to be.
How in the pits of hell you gon' pull the nerve to TELL Chaka - of all people - to try to sound like Faith Evans or Mary J? I guess the crack epidemic hit the WB offices as well.

I don't think anyone knows what the exact track listing is but the tracks are
Dare You To Love Me Never Miss The Water Don't Take Back Your Love Love Me Still Pain Miles Blowin' Everywhere Let My Heart Go You & I Are One Power Whatever I Want One Rainy Wish (erroneously referred to A Dream I Had or Color Of A Dream I Had - it's a Hendrix cover) Every Little Thang Something Deep Your Love Is All I Know It Ain't Easy Loving Me
The version of You & I Are One intended for the album is not the same as the version eventually released on a compilation entitled A Song A Day - it's just under 2 minutes longer and is slower. Some of the vocal's the same, but the drums are programmed as opposed to the live kit on the ASAD version.
There's also a slightly alternate mix of It Ain't Easy Loving Me that begins with the programmed drum fill and no guitar.

No, "Pain" was the only Prince song on that particular project. A lot of it was produced by David Gamson. I still would like to see the album released in it's entirety but, I can kind of, sort of see why Warner rejected it. I believe I've heard most, if not all, of the album (including some demos) and although there were a handful of pretty good songs on it, I don't think there were any really strong singles on it like there were on "The Woman I Am". In 1995, it was still important to have strong, radio-friendly singles. Radio, for whatever reason, failed to embrace "Never Miss The Water", which I thought was a darn good song. I thought "It Ain't Easy Loving Me" was the best song from the project. Not sure why they only choose to release that one on the Japan version of "Epiphany". "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! I would believe that there was a new staff at Warner Bros that had no respect for Chaka's history.

Thanks for clearing that up.
I think "Never Miss The Water" didn't do well at radio because it's not really an r&b song (in the traditional sense) and it kind of threw some casual r&B radio fans for a loop. Not to mention the song sounded too much like a Mechelle Ndgeocello track than a Chaka track.
I haven't heard the other trax (other than "Pain"). I thought "Pain" would have been a good radio single. It was modern and fresh to me at the time. It fit in with the "mid-tempo" style of r&b that was going on at the time.
I'm going to have to check out "It Ain't Easy Loving Me." I'm going to search for it tonight.

What year(s) did she work on this? Pre-Prince or Post-Prince (1998)?

'Dare You To Love Me' CD This project was completed before the 'Epiphany' CD was released in 1996, and for some reason, Warner Brothers decided to disregard all of the hard work that Chaka (& others!!) put into the project by cancelling it's release. Warners then started to release several of the tracks on various soundtracks, and others appeared as the 'new songs' on 1996's 'Epiphany'. From what I've heard on the tracks that I've collected from this project, Chaka Khan had a great CD that was dumped in favor of a 'Best Of' CD. All is not lost fellow 'Chakaholics'! Any Questions ? Definitely not the confirmed tracklisting and still that erroneous title for "One Rainy Wish". Don't know why not one track listing I've seen circulating picks up on the Jimi Hendrix cover. Also a rumour that "Superlife" is from the same era. Not at all...not even a 90s track as far as I'm aware.

I believe it was. I'm not sure if it acutally ever showed up on youtube, but I have the original version of "Superlife". It was originally leaked on the internet in 2001, LONG before "Funk This" was even thought about. At that time, we didn't know where the track came from. We just assumed that it was from the "Dare" project. IMO, vocally, it is superior to the version that we ended up with in 2007. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! I'd say Superlife's from maybe 1990 or 1991. Even Van Gogh would have been able to hear that it's nothing to do with the Dare You To Love Me era.

Somehow...I acquired a version that doesn't have: "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Yeah, those remixes are dreadful.

Are these songs on iTunes? I really want them and her other songs from soundtracks. That is the only thing missing from my Chaka collection and it drives me crazy. Stevie Wonder = EARTH

So,what's going on with Chaka these days? Awhile back,I heard she was working on a new album but I think Burgundy Records (which released 'Funk This') has shut down.

Last I heard, she was recording an album of duets. But, that's more than likely to change at some point. I've heard so many stories over the past couple years about her being in the studio and working with this person and that person but nothing seems to be materializing.
