Philip Michael Thomas You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The Queen before the Princess, for a moment I was wondering " What the hell are you asking? " but it's not that bad of a question. Jeux Sans Frontiers

Coming back to this for a moment, Whitney's modernized version is nice for a midday listen or if you like contemporary christian music but Aretha's is that old soul sound that still resonates today, even if the song is only known on this soundtrack. Jeux Sans Frontiers

Oddly enough I heard Whitney's version before I heard Aretha's. And while Whitney's was cool, as soon as I heard Aretha, I didn't wanna hear Whitney's version. I didn't like the film version for some reason but I do like "Sparkle" the film... maybe less Phillip Michael Thomas idk lol I liked it when Irene did it solo though.

Aretha's version sounds like a girl group which matches the theme of the movie.
Whitney's version sounds like an album track from a 1994 album that was never released from her. She kinda sounds like Terry Ellis from En Vogue on it.
Aretha wins. Stevie Wonder = EARTH
Prince = WIND Chaka Khan = FIRE Sade = WATER the ELEMENTS of MUSIC
