Some of these tracks sound awful in 2011.
Yikes.

Al B. Sure! produced some great NJS tracks back in his day too. Just can't remember them now... . His production was mostly top notch although his singing wasn't.

That's one impressive list Timmy! You listed some of my contenders. Johnny Kemp is forgotten gem from that era. Probably because that's his biggest hit. I Want Her is a strong contender too!

Hands Down:
"I Want Her" by Keith Sweat
As far as I'm concerned, Keith was the king of New Jack Swing music.
Followed by:
"Something, Something Just Ain't Right" and "Make It Last Forever".
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Yeah he (and Bobby) are strong contenders for the NJS title but seeing how Keith DID come first, I do believe he has Bobby beat. He also had "I Can Make You Sweat" and "Merry Go Round".

And whoever mentioned James Brown, it's new jack influenced but I think James would've been against the fact that his material with Full Force was "new jack swing", it was otherwise still just "funky music" to him. But Full Force did have influence as far as the development of new jack swing and they did have a hot NJS song with "Ain't My Type of Hype" from the House Party soundtrack.

Speaking of FF, is this a pre-cursor to NJS?
I say it is even if it's really more in the advance of freestyle than anything else though. But some elements prevalent in new jack swing later on was evident in this song.
