Diana Ross won 8 American Music Awards and been nominated for twelve Grammy Awards, but has never won a Grammy. Ross did win a Tony award for her one-woman show "An Evening with Diana Ross" in 1977.

Ross has had eighteen number one records in her career and was listed in the 1993 "Guinness Book of World Records" as the most successful female music artist in history. Ross has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, one for her solo career and one as a member of The Supremes.

Well what can one say? Maybe in the eyes of the top record mogals Beyonce epitomises the sterotypical image of black women. Seemingly this image is still alive and well in that black women are still protrayed as maids, or as sexually aggressive and overly promiscuous types.

Most of Beyonce's videos are very sexy in content, so she keeps the image of the "too hot to trot" cliche alive and well for many of today's (black) young women.

Not to mention her husband Jay-Zenomorph (spelled xenomorph), who has ignorantly shaped Beyonce's image, making her the video queen of glitterized slutism, frosted over with visual cryptic symbolic imagery. All the while she is the host while breeding a caste of body gyrating sub-beyonce morphs at the behest of the record company's top elite and exclusive club members. (wtf, sex sells and it's all about money-right?)

So the powers that be, are happy with the image Beyonce gives to the public. imo, young women who want to be like beyonce should be afraid, and be "very afraid."

I can NOT believe that U2's The Joshua Tree won over Michael's Bad & Prince's Sign 'O' The Times. What kind of bullshit was that?!?

Honestly, it should've won over "Bad". "Sign O the Times" though, yeah - that would've been a fair fight.

Several critics at the time agreed SOTT should have won, but JT carried off the image of A Serious Album. Prince was disappointed for years after that.

And myself, I've watched the show twice in the 23 years since that night.

I respect JT, but SOTT was superior, remains superior, and should have won.

SOTT might be superior, but JT had a bunch of hits. It was U2's most popular album to date. Sign had classic prince songs but really only U Got the Look was a big hit. It was most likely seen by some people as disappointing, since everything he did got compared to Purple Rain.

So I might agree with you, but I can see how Joshua Tree appears to be more of a classic album, concise and consistent, and Sign might be seen as spotty.

Most of Bey's Grammies were bought. That's what I think. Money and politics got her those Grammies. She even got a Grammy for singing "At Last" at the Obama Inaugural Ball. What kind of nonsense is that? Yeah, the Grammies are a BIG joke!

Beyonce deserves a Grammy WAY more than Diana Ross.

Diana Ross is a very weak singer and has never come across as likeable. Beyonce's far more charismatic and you can't fault her vocals. Gorgeous too.

Here's the thing though....Diana has amazing songs in her catalog.Songs that are now considered 'classic'.A song like "Do You Know Where You're Going To" is more Grammy-worthy than crap like "Single Ladies".

shrug I've never agreed with the prevailing opinion that she's pure pop. I think she effortlessly crossed between the two. The way I see it, it was split pretty evenly:

You Give Good Love - R&B

Saving All My Love for You - Pop

How Will I Know - Pop

Greatest Love of All - R&B

I Wanna Dance With Somebody - Pop

Didn't We Almost Have It All - R&B

So Emotional - Pop

Where Do Broken Hearts Go - R&B

I'm Your Baby Tonight - Pop

All the Man I Need - R&B

My Name Is Not Susan - R&B

I Belong to You - R&B

Your opinion. My opinion is Beyonce is a mediocre singer with ZERO originality who sings nothing but silly, empty dance-Pop songs and I don't think she's very likeable at all. And as far as her being gorgeous, if you call looking like a ghetto Barbie doll gorgeous, then fine.

If her father wasn't who he is in the business and she wasn't married to JZ, I highly doubt she would have garnered 16 Grammys in such a short period of time.

Same with Diane. That's why they dubbed Nippy the new Diana Ross back in the day. Neither were never totally Pop. But their music, for the most part, was always geared a lot towards that audience.

I am still confused as to why Obama didnt ask ETTA to do it herself. We know its not her song but she is most famous for her cover of it. I guess because Beyonce being a big pop star now he asked her instead of Etta. Etta had a big ass diva moment about it to lol

Between the Supremes and her solo career, Diana's had an insane amount of hits. But she should've put her ego aside w/ Mary Wilson and just did the tour. They had to scrap the tour anyway.

That's the only reason I could see Barack asking Beyonce and not Etta. Plus they got two young girls who are Beyonce fans anyways. It's kinda sad though because this was right after Etta's remarks that Etta started getting sick. sad

Both Diana and Mary have MAD ego problems. It's just that people are trying to excuse Mary's deal but she's worse than Diana when it comes to ego. Who knows what went on with the Supremes in Diana's mind since she's hardly talked about it while Mary and Florence (in a way) had presented their sides.
