Classic funk.

I am looking to make a playlist of 30-40 classic funk tracks both to get into new stuff and to keep all the tight jams together on my Spotify.

Won't you post your favorite funk jams? Can either be a YouTube or just typing it out and I will go seek them.

George Clinton, Fela Kuti, Sly, Rufus, etc are my normal go-tos for the funk. What are their best jams in your opinion? Try to stay in the 80s and before. Not so much interested in 90s funk. sick

Thanks!

Here're a few albums that I think are essential when it comes to funk music(IMVHO at least)

Zapp & Roger:

Roger & The Human Body

The Many Facets of Roger

Zapp

Zapp II

Zapp III

Zapp V

Zapp IV U

Johnny Guitar Watson:

The Funk Anthology

I could've came up with a load of albums, but this is pretty good starting point IMO.

Cameo:

Ugly Ego

Secret Omen

Cameosis

Feel Me

Knights of The Sound Table

Alligator Woman(Didn't know Vanity was on the cover till recently via Cinnie)

Style

Bootsy:

Stretchin' Out On Bootsy's Rubber Band

Ahh,,,The Name's Bootsy, Baby!

Bootsy? Player Of The Year

Betty Davis(Although, she's more ambiguous, I'd seriously consider her one of the early originators of punk rock along with funk )

Betty Davis

They Say I'm Different

Nasty Gal

Is It Love Or Desire?

Isley Bros:

3+3

Live It Up

The Heat Is On

Harvest For The World

Go For Your Guns

Showdown

Winner Takes All

Eddie Hazel(This one is VERY dear to me):

Game, Dames & Guitar Thangs

His posthumous releases are pretty solid too.

Savor 'em all!

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
