Because R. Kelly apparently disrespected him during some supposed duet they had. lol

So he calls him an elephant dick? Isn't that a compliment?

No. You're reading the comment the wrong way.

He's not describing R.Kelly; he's saying what should be done to him! smile

Don't forget what Whitney said about Diana Ross when they were thinking of doing Dreamgirls as a movie way back in the 80's. They wanted Whitney to play the Deena Jones role and Diana felt she should play it. When they asked Whitney how she felt about it she said, "Well what are they going to call it Dreamgrannies?" lolololol. I died when I read that.

For some reason I don't believe this story. Maybe it's because, well, Diana hated "Dreamgirls" so why would she even agreed to participate? lol All I heard was Whitney was on bill to do it but it fell flat.

I'll give credit to Miles, assuming that's not just an urban legend. There's an implication on Mick's part and we all need to not take ourselves seriously enough to remain open to the possibility of a slammed door.

But most of this top 30 shit seems quite pathetic. Spelling out just how fucking uncool this twat who makes my insecurity swell really is. Not only does this serve to hip some truth upon those who remain clueless, but it implies my own superiority.

Not much different than high school. Just a bigger building.

I yearn for the humor of the full transcripts. But apparently physician-patient privilege strictly prohibits.

Oddly after Trent's rant against Marilyn, the two made up and Marilyn appeared in NIN's "Starfuckers" video.

For a song that was at least partly about him. lol But yeah, they made nicey nice. Never really worked together again, though (to the best of my knowledge anyway, I lost interest in MM way back at the beginning).

Yeah they still ain't worked on nothing together since. The Trent-produced MM material was their best.

I'd like a separate list of Steve Alibin's harshest musician insults. I don't always agree, and he can be a bit of a prick, but he's always entertaining and the insults are usually zingers.

Timmy84, you need to be slapped. razz Sure, Antichrist Superstar was great, arguably his best album, but do you really believe that Portrait of an American Family and Smells Like Children are superior to Mechanical Animals and Holy Wood?

I do. He very quickly became more about the spectacle, controversy and image of Marilyn Manson and not the music to anybody other than his hard core fans. He lost me with the Dope Show and the constant firing of his band.

I think with Portrait, Smells Like Children and Antichrist, MM was on some other level. It was helped by Trent. He had dope material afterwards and there's a lot of genius in Holy Wood but something about those first three I named that ring out as special to me.

Albini, in response to a newspaper article that praised Liz Phair and The Smashing Pumpkins

....you are making the case that Liz Phair and the Smashing Pumpkins are somehow unique in rock music because they are brazenly trying to sell records......These are not "alternative" artists any more than their historical precursors. They are by, of and for the mainstream. Liz Phair is Rickie Lee Jones (more talked about than heard, a persona completely unrooted in substance, and a fucking chore to listen to), Smashing Pumpkins are REO Speedwagon (stylistically appropriate for the current college party scene, but ultimately insignificant).

This coming from the guy who produced Bush. He seems to embody the ridiculous snobbery, hypocrisy, and iconoclasm of the whole indie/pitchfork dig-the-populist-shit-only-in-an-ironical-way hipster world.

I can really get into some of the stuff he's been involved with though, like The Jesus Lizard and Big Black, btu his production style irks me. It's dry, the guitars are really upfront and harsh, and the vocals are buried.

I don't know, the songs on Portrait of an American Family and Smells Like Children are pretty weak to my ears. I would argue that in the beginning he was mostly image with very little to back it up musically but starting with Antichrist Superstar and continuing with Mechanical Animals and Holy Wood he finally started delivering great music to go along with the image. Certainly the early stuff is much less commercial sounding than the middle period stuff.

Maybe that's why I love it. The interludes that were in those albums were funny. I don't know I've always been a quirky individual. Not everything has to be polished lol

"I'm not Prince or Rivers Cuomo, who brags about having hundreds of great songs," Reznor replied. "And to that I would say, 'Prince, if you have a hundred great songs or a thousand, how about picking a few and putting them on your record that you've put out, because your last several have sucked.' Same for you, Rivers. I say that constructively, you know." - Trent Reznor

Well his using some pretty solid logic there! lol And I don't think its meant to be mean spirited in this case, either.

I am one of "those" NIN fans, but I would never argue with anyone who wished to talk shit about his lyrics. They've often left a bit to be desired. But musically, sonically and emotionally he creates great soundscapes. I for one and happy he's focused on instrumentals and soundtracks more in the last few years. I could listen to more of that stuff forever.

So, anyway, in regards to what he said, I'm pretty sure he was expressing his genuine frustration at the fact that these guys DO have those songs (lyrically), but they sit on them (for years, decades even).
