Chuck D's Reaction To Kanye/Jay's "Oits"

(AllHipHop News) Pioneering rap veteran Chuck D. has released a song titled "Notice," his own take on Jay-Z and Kanye West's popular track “Otis,” from their upcoming release Watch the Throne.

The Public Enemy frontman, who recorded the track on his birthday (August 1st), said "Notice" was inspired by a number of different events, including the recent media frenzy over Soulja Boy's allegedly purchase of a $55,000,000 jet, which turned out to be a hoax.

Chuck D. told AllHipHop.com that his lyrics are not meant to offend Soulja Boy, Jay-Z or Kanye West, yet he simply had to make a commentary about the times we are living in.

"In these difficult times for many people (especially of color), this is a call to artists to continue to inspire, but to reflect the people better than the media does," Chuck D. said of "Notice."

According to Chuck D., the song is simply a call for fellow artists to "counteract the media's overzealousness in reporting," by better representing the fans who listen to their music.

“Here’s to hoping that the Jay-Z & Kanye supergroup can elevate the masses to try a little bit more to reflect Otis’ heart rather than swag, because they're too good to be less,” Chuck D. said.

Hmmm...I'm definitely feeling Chuck D's comments. This bragging, excess-driven industry is just tearing into the minds of people nowadays, while alot of us can't even get out of the oppression of our own lives. It's all just a fantasy!

Jay need to sit his old ass down and just do the mogul / corporate thing. Kanye needs to go back to being hungry, he has let his ego ruin his music. SMH neutral

The hard part now is whether or not any of the young rap artists will listen to what Chuck is saying.

LOL are you kidding?

If it came out less than slobbering their knobs, they(Jay & Ye) and their fans who desperately live vicariously through them will automatically think that Chuck is being a bitter hater.

Kanye's music has been ego driven since his second album imho. His first one was the only one that actually had some heart to it. The rest of his work is all saved by his production. Jay-Z on the other hand.....I don't think I've ever heard anyone so conceited & ego-driven in my life... lol

I've been over "HOVA" since the Big Pimpin era, or shortly after, LOL. And, I've been over Kanye since about the time Golddigger came out. I think I read some blog that called Kanye a genius. I really don't see how he's a "genius" but if someone can fill me in, I'm open to hear why some think he's so great because I just don't see it. Seems like these two are just trying to turn themselves into legends and it's a bit irritating, oh well...

I like some songs on the album (the beats make up for it) but other than that they wasn’t really talking about much on the album except for songs like murder to excellence, New Day and Made in America feat Frank Ocean I wish they made more records like that but I heard Otis family apparently gave them their blessing to do the record so I guess they wasn’t too bothered by it I do agree with Chuck though. Smh at Birdman saying lil Wayne and Drake are going to do an album together and how Jay-Z and Kanye couldn’t appeal to the younger set etc it’s up to them now. A Wayne and Drake album would be way worse.

Timmy--totally agree with you and I was thinking that but then thought maybe I was just out of touch or something--Drake just seems real phony and I don't see what makes him so great. Not in looks, talent or stage presence. It just seems like folks are "made" famous sans the actual talent to back it up, but of course there are exceptions to this...

I think some of the artists are encouraged to be half-assed. Like they're not even trying, like they're just lazy...
