Peanut Butter - A Twennynine Set, featuring Lenny White

...

In 1979, Drummer Lenny White, famous for his role with Fusion supergroup Return to Forever and his solo career, decided to create an outlet for a more Pop/R&B Funk sound, and the group Twennynine was born.

The group consisted of White on Drums and percussion, Keyboardists Don Blackman and Denzil Miller(and later John 'Skip' Anderson), Guitarists Eddie Martinez and Nick Moroch, Bassist/Vocalist Barry 'Sonjohn' Johnson, and vocalist Tanya Willoughby. Guest artists included Marcus Miller, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dave Grusin, and Earth Wind and Fire's Larry Dunn. The group became known for their biggest hit, "Peanut Butter" (written by Don Blackman) .....

Twennynine - Betta

Twennynine - Morning Sunrise

Twennynine - Best of Friends

Twennynine - Peanut Butter

Twennynine - Just Like Dreamin'

Twennynine -Rhythm

Twennynine - My Melody

Twennynine - Fancy Dancer

Twennynine - All I Want

Twennynine - Tropical Nights

Solid 3 albums. From start to finish each.

I just wish that Don Blackman contributed in all of them instead of only the debut.

The progression in the chorus of "Morning Sunrise" (I'm not near

a keyboard but I think its the 5th-4th-diminished 3rd) is fucking

dope.

Thanks for posting these videos - I had never heard of them before.

I was used to Weldon Irvine's version for a long time, it took me a minute to appreciate their version. Probably because how different the mood was for both versions.

Don Blackman could write songs for me any day love

Good stuff.

An Eddie Martinez thread covering all his session work might be interesting.
