Janet Jackson - Up Close and Personal in Detroit

Just got home from seeing Janet Jackson Up Close and Personal at the Fox Theater in Detroit. I'm tired as hell because a Janet Jackson concert is a WORK OUT, for real!!!! Girlfriend threw down!!! I really enjoyed myself!!!

There was one guy so in love I just had to laugh. I was sitting on a bench around the corner from the Fox waiting for my hubby to get the car and this young man walked past me with Janet's tour book held closely to his heart and a picture he'd bought from a street vendor pressed to his lips and he was just wandering about in a complete fog. His buddy had to grab him to keep from just walking into traffic. That tickled the shit out of me. Go 'head Miss Jackson! You still got it, Girl! LOL!

Her setlist was tight, of course. She performed all of her Number One Hits. She can do no wrong with that.

My hubby is in Janet Jackson heaven right now and as soon as I can drag his happy ass back down to earth to download the pictures, I'll post them up. lol

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Lol@ Your Husband being in Janet heaven, ha.

Sounds like you guys had a great time. I saw Janet earlier this year at Radio City and she really puts on a good show. She can dance her butt off and is in amazing shape. Definitely one of the best performers i've seen.

I had a great time the two times I saw her.

One of the highlights that I enjoyed the most was her acknowledgement of Detroit. She said no matter what anybody says about Detroit (and we know some silly motherfuckers love to rag on Detroit). But Janet Jackson said that she will always have much love for Detroit because Detroit is where her family got their real start.

Then of course she went into Together Again, complete with pics on the jumbo screen of her and her big brother Michael. All 5000 people in the Fox Theater were on their feet, singing right along with her to Michael. That made me smile and cry at the same time.

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I'm glad that you and your husband had such a great time. biggrin Janet's shows on this tour have an intimacy and rapport with the audience that makes them special and she gives her all--at least she did in the two concerts I went to. I danced my ass off! cool

OMG!! I had to get on the head of the published Detroit News Reviewer for the whack ass review of this concert that was published by him in my local newspaper.

Because he was such a moron...I'll just post his reply to me. giggle

Hi Danielle,

Glad you enjoyed the concert. Thank you for reading and thank you for taking the time to write, but I stopped reading after the third time you called me stupid.

Sincerely,
Adam Graham

Seriously? You called him stupid three times for voicing his opinion? It's not like he doesn't have a point here and there. You should learn accepting other people's opinion.

I have to agree with the reviewer. We saw her in Chicago, and while it was a nice show, we had the same complaints. The video in the beginning is a total buzzkill. And playing it in full takes the excitement level down a few notches for when she actually performs it.

The truncated versions of hits shouldn't really be counted as being performed, especially in the case of Black Cat. I only remember hearing the opening growl.

I also felt the encore selections were kind of odd. Diamonds and Best Things In Life Are Free don't really strike me as ones the crowd is clamouring for, even though they were nice to hear. Together Again was very touching with the pics of her and MJ.

I thought the Rock Witchu tour was better on many levels. It's a pity that tour never got a chance.

^^Ah well, at least you got something from Black Cat and Diamonds and Best things... on my six US shows she played Black cat only once and on my european shows all 3 songs were cut alltogether.

i agree. i saw the concert a few months ago and my only complaint was that it wasnt live to me. i felt like a paid to hear a cd playing in the back, even with the band there, and lip synching kind of bother me, but that's my own pet peeve. some people don't care about such things. i had fun dancing though.

Dear Mr. Graham,

What are you stupid or something? The review you gave of Janet Jackson's Number Ones - Up Close and Personal concert was the biggest bunch of drivel that I've
read in a long time and I read a whole bunch of drivel. I'm a community moderator on the Huffington Post website.

Why would you think that Janet would have presented "fresh, reconstituted versions of her hits"? You must be stupid. That crowd did not come to hear Janet perform some
new wave version of Control. Or a ballad version of Miss You Much. We went to see Janet Jackson bring her hits just like they were meant to be performed. She did that and
she did it well.

She started the off with The Best Things In Life Are For Free because she dedicated one number one hit to each of the 35 cities, ours just so happened to be that. Sorry, it wasn't up to your standards.

"The show only looked back and never looked forward". You really are stupid, aren't you??? It was a show centered around her Number One hit songs. The whole point of it
was looking back. As for her current place in today's pop music climate being uncertain? That's actually a good thing because today's pop music culture sucks, thanks to hacks
like you that don't appreciate real talent and eagerly applaud the cookie cutter crap that's being performed by Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Rhinanna. When one of those future has-beens
can go on tour, 10 years after their last hit record and with enough number one songs to fill an almost 90 minute, you be sure to let me know.

In the meantime, learn to appreciate Ms. Jackson for who she is, not what you want her to be.

Sincerely,

Danielle
