Early/Mid80s Funk ('82 - '86) - best guitar solos? Guitar became less and less prevalent during this period in R&B/funk (Prince's music was a bit of an exception).
Since this is the "Music:Non-Prince" forum, you can't vote for Prince songs (but if you could they would be up near the top of the list).
Couple of candidates/top contenders.
-The Time - "Jungle Love" - Jesse Johnson composed the tune and played the solo that probably provided the foundation for his career. Lucky us (and I mean that sincerely).
-The S.O.S. Band "Just the Way the You Like It" - I do not know who the guitar player was on the solo.
-Cameo - "Don't Be So Cool." - Cameo always seemed to have competitive guitar parts.
-David Bowie - "Let's Dance" - Produced by Chic's Nile Rogers, guitar solo from Stevie Ray Vaughn.
-Tamara & the Seen -"Everybody Dance" - Produced by & guitar solo from Jesse Johnson.
-George Clinton - "Quickie".
Which of these tunes, or ANY OTHER PERTINENT TUNE FROM THIS PERIOD, do you think should be included in this list?

I predicted that people would probably includes tunes from Roger/Zapp and Cameo.
But I like the other tunes, too.
I think the solo at the finish of "Yabba Dabba Doo" is quite unique and I enjoy learnin' about Don Blackman. I had not learned of him before.
I look forward listenin' to the other Don Blackman tune, Civil Attack, Ellis Hall Jr., and 15 rounds. I have heard all of the others before.
Does anyone know who was the guitar soloist on Teena Marie's "Lovergirl?"

Thank you for the addition/contribution of low profile bands such as BB&Q and Klique. Those are definitely fun female images at the link to the Klique clip.
