Hey "The Audience" there's tons of orchestral compositions in Carlito's Way, here's one of my favorite ones. They really blend the pop/disco/salsa and the orchestral compositions well in the movie.

Patrick Doyle does nice work. He's just not one of my favorites.
He scored the new Rise of the Planet of the Apes flick.
Haven't seen/heard it yet.

Very nice collection.

I was saving Mr. Raksin for my next barrage.
(Ennio Morricone, Jerry Goldsmith Elmer Bernstein, Howard Shore, etc)
That Laura melody is a personal favorite.
In my Top 5 of all time.

You're becoming very paligap-like in a musical mind-meld kind of way. cool

I recommend it. It was scored by Michael Giacchino, my favorite composer. He won Grammys and an Academy Award for his excellent score of Up, but it's his work on LOST that is his best IMO.

"Star Trek"

"Married Life" (from Up)

My favorites from LOST:

"Locke'd Out Again"

"All's Forgiven... Except Charlie"

"Landing Party"

"LAX"

Well, thank ya. biggrin I look foward to you posting of Bernstein, Goldsmith and Raksin.

I'm a BIG movie soundtrack collector, my siblings and I can thank our mommy for that. biggrin Her opinion, 'a bad soundtrack usually equals a very bad movie I find that to be so true rather than false'. Seeing your a fan of Hitchcock movies, my mother had to point out to me, "The Birds" doesn't have any music in it. Now, I've watched this movie for 4 decades and never noticed there's no music. lol

David Raskin is my favorite movie composure. I recommend eveyone to watch (it's shown on Fox Movie Channel from time to time) "Forever Amber" to hear his classical score from that movie; Raskin's score could match any classical music composers work. (Imo)

For a little trivia: All three gentlemen died tha same year (2004) ... Bernstein, Goldsmith and Raksin that is. Bernstein and Raskin died within days of each other, and when TCM did their end of the year memorial, Raskin's was left out of the tribute. Some attritbuted the slight to him for testifying in front of the McCarthy / Un-American Activities Committee in the 50's.

Agreed---I wasn't around during Sat Night Fever but wow those songs really define that era as someone said earlier...when people think of the 70s, I think they think about that era (1977-1979) not so much 1970 or 1971....

Ennio Morricone (tons of scores but primarily known for the Sergio Leone "spaghetti westerns")...

...The Thing & Once Upon A Time In America

...Malèna & Once Upon A Time In The West

Jerry Goldsmith...

...Chinatown & Alien

...L.A. Confidential & Freud

Elmer Bernstein...

...The Magnificent Seven &The Great Escape

...To Kill A Mockingbird & The Man With The Golden Arm

Howard Shore (mainly known for Lord Of The Rings scores)...

...Silence of the Lambs & Naked Lunch

David Raksin...

Coming up with clips for David Raksin was quite a chore.
It seems the only thing folks know about him is Laura (nothing to sneeze at).
(Maybe he's been blackballed on YouTube also. lol )

That being the case, i'll augment this post with "another brother" Terence Blanchard...

...Malcolm X & Bamboozled

...25th Hour & When The Levees Broke

Btw, your Mom is a very wise woman. (but i'm sure you already knew that)
The only thing you need to hear once you realize "The Birds" are not your friends,

I can't think of a bigger, more powerful movie soundtrack than this one.The Bee Gees' songs are just as important as the actors in the movie. The songs practically steal the show!

I agree boogie ... and still can see John Travolta walking when I hear Staying Alive... Michael Nyman's music did pretty much the same for Jane Campion's Piano. In late 90's I spent many weeks just listening to that soundtrack. music

Speaking of an era, doesn't anyone remember Pink Floyd and "The Wall"? It was really impressive too.

There are several for me:

1. Grease Soundtrack

2. The Bodyguard

3. Sat Night Fever

4. The Big Chill Soundtrack

5. Footloose Soundtrack.

I can't say which is the best of all time though...there are just too many good ones out there. Waiting to Exhale wasn't bad either.

To post a YouTube video:

1. Write "[ youtube ]" (without the spaces)

2. Paste the entire URL or just the section after v=

3. Write "[ / youtube ]" (again, without the spaces)

Simple.
