34 years ago today, Elvis left the building....

While bringing up Elvis in the forum usually leads to contentiousness and bitter argument, the fact that he is still the center of such debate to me means it is worth marking his passing.

In fact, I think that his being the center of such heated arguments might be the greatest indication of his impact. If the arguments now are so passionate imagine the discussions he caused in 1954 when no one new quite how to classify him. The red flags he waved infront of the masses about what was appropriate and what wasn't are still being argued today. What did white, black, young, old, rich and poor mean in a country that was trying to hold on to a false sense of innocence after World War 2?

I wont presume that the all the same arguments won't show up in this thread that seem to appear anytime Presley is even casually mentioned, but just like people asked for respect in the RIP threads for Michael, maybe the same can be asked here.

I don't really know how to imbed videos in posts so the best I can do is provide a link to one of my favorite Elvis tunes and one that was based on conversations with Elvis during the produciton of the 1968 singer special.

(If anyone wants to shoot me a orgnote on how to imbed videos, I will be happy to make the appropriate edits....)

Peace
