Someone needs to make a Motown mega thread. :/

I'm surprised you wasn't in this section when there was a Motown sticky when the 50th anniversary came around lol

lol I know, I got distracted. I found that via search just now.

I thought tonight's Unsung on Mary Wells was good. I didn't know too much about her, other than that she was a major star with Motown. I had no idea that she was basically the first major act from there to really crossover in a big way to mainstream pop success. The only thing that I knew about her post-Motown career was the song Gigolo which came out when I was in high school. And who could have guessed that she would be so popular in the southwest among the low-riders and cholos, lol. A comeback is a comeback. And she at least got to have one later in her life before she died.

Saw it last night. I knew her dilemma with the Womack brothers but dang, she really went through the ringer didn't she? Didn't know she tried to kill herself. disbelief I felt so sorry for her. I thought it was cute how when she had her last child, how excited she was. She had to been what, pushing 40 or already in her 40's when she had her? So yeah I can see why having a baby would make her happy. That said......not judging....but damn how you leave your hubby for his abusive broham? Lawd, them damn Womacks. Surprised Bobby wasn't on there giving his two cents. But I can't wait to see his Unsung epi too though.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Friendly and Curtis are probably on his thing too. I like to see them explain (including Bobby) how the Valentinos broke up. We know Cecil ain't talking.

I hope so. They didn't really show any commercials for it during the Mary Wells one last night so I don't know.

I think so or it could the week after. Unsung has kinda extended this month a bit so not every episode comes after every week but every other week.

Well, better late than never! Finally got to see this. Can't believe Mary died at age 49! eek What a tough life she had. sad But, I can't believe after her cancer went into remission she started smoking again, and then it came back. I just quit smoking a month ago and I'll be damned if I pick that habit up again. Mary's story consolidated that decision. neutral But Mary left a great legacy of music behind for us to enjoy. This is just a reminder.

I see. TVOne has been acting real strange lately anyways. They're more propped for Toccara's trainwreck VH-1 look-a-like show than on actual programming that focuses on classic artists...

Yeah for some reason her early singles ("The One Who Really Loves You", "You Beat Me to the Punch", and "Two Lovers") are very popular amongst the lowrider crowd. I don't think any other Motown artist can claim that though "Ooh Baby Baby" and "Shotgun" are also popular songs with Cholos.

Check the YouTube channels that are pretty much created by people from the lowriding communities, a bunch of old shit that even BLACK folks have forgotten about!!!
